Department Summary
Department Summary: : The Associate/Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business and Administrative Operations serves as a member of the department’s Athletics Executive Team and is responsible for providing strategic oversight, implementation, and management of the Department of Athletics financial functions, procedures, and policies. The position serves the role of chief financial and administrative officer (CFAO), maintains collaborative decision-making authority regarding the organization’s financial health, financial liaison to the University, conducts strategic financial analysis, and advises the Director of Athletics about the financial implications of operational, capital, and other strategies for the multi-million-dollar annual budget. This position provides senior level oversight of the business and administrative operations and human resources units. This position is expected to maintain a focus on continual process improvements to ensure operational efficiencies and sound financial practices. In addition, this position will provide oversight of assigned athletic sport programs, collaborating with coaches, review and monitor time management plans, develop action plans, set strategic goals, performance management and professional development, establish sport program schedules, and conduct annual performance evaluations of programs and coaches.
- Responsible for directing strategic matters as they relate to budget management and control. Create financial models to perform budget forecasting and complex financial analysis necessary for departmental decisions and strategic planning, including a variety of external revenue sources, both unrestricted and restricted, such as NCAA and Mid-American Conference distributions, sponsorships, licensing, game guarantees, ticket sales and other event-related revenues, merchandise and concession commissions, gift contributions, etc. Advise the Director of Athletics with financial decisions for the multi-million-dollar annual budget.
- Oversee performance of all financial responsibilities for Ohio Athletics’ administration and sport programs, including developing, maintaining, analyzing, and ensuring accountability of budgets, financial planning, and projections. Responsible for reporting forecasted results to the University Budget Office and collaborating with the Budget Office in preparation of financial forecasts for the University’s Board of Trustees. Supervise the administration of spending and expenditures for administrative and sport program units.
- Collaborate with and advise the Athletics executive staff on all capital construction projects, with particular focus on identifying and directing resource allocations and project budget tracking. Ensure resources are allocated appropriately to address upkeep of equipment and facilities.
- Contribute to the development of financial presentations to the Board of Trustees, Ohio University Foundation, Ohio Bobcat Club, the Ohio University Intercollegiate Athletics Committee, and other groups (as requested).
- Administer internal control systems to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial processes and records and safeguard financial assets of the department. Manage and set financial policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with institutional control by following all University, NCAA, Conference, and Federal regulations, and embracing the highest standard of integrity and ethical behavior. Works proactively to mitigate internal and external audit risks.
- Maintain and coordinate accurate and timely financial reporting, including the annual Department of Education Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) Report, NCAA Agreed-Upon Procedures Report, and compliance reports.
- Represents the department at University-wide CFAO and other financial related meetings scheduled by senior leaders as directed by the Director of Athletics. Serves as primary contact for all financial and compliance audits. Represent the athletics department on committees throughout campus and with all external agencies, such as the NCAA and Mid-American Conference
- Oversight of the Business and Administrative Operations staff with an emphasis on goal setting, delegating assignments, monitoring performance, and raising awareness and knowledge of financial management and compliance matters.
- Serves as a member of the Athletics Executive Team and as a sport administrator to assigned sport programs to include personnel, budget management, competition scheduling, team athletic and academic performance, and NCAA and Mid-American Conference compliance.

Physical Requirements
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Master’s degree in a related field, 8 or more years of related professional experience, and 5 or more years of supervisory experience, or equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in college athletics and serving as a sport administrator.
