Full Job Description

Job description – metal worker- emphasis on certified welding

Maine Locomotive & Machine is a small, unique, growing company in Alna Maine that is focused on the preservation and operation of historic machinery. We are currently looking for an additional welder/metal worker with machinist capabilities that has an eye for detail and production to help us better serve our customers. This position may be either part- or full-time depending on the applicant and their abilities. Ability to travel and work offsite is required, as well as able to work independently. This could be a fun, rewarding position for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:
- Welding/cutting/drilling as directed on carbon steel

- Following drawings/work checklists as needed

- Production of unique (one off) parts as directed

- Working independently or with others in a team environment to complete projects safely & efficiently

- Communicate well with others as projects move along

Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent

- Driver’s license, with dependable transportation and the ability to occasionally work off site

- Ability to pass a background check
- At least 5 years experience in a mechanical position
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Proficient in using hand and power tools

- Proficient with SMAW, FCAW & Oxy-acetylene torch operation

- Ability to successfully pass a welding certification test (ASME IX)

- light machining/metal fabrication experience is a plus
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
- Ability to work independently without oversight

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled welder/metal worker to join us. We offer competitive pay and a very unique work environment. Scheduling can be flexible, depending on the candidate. The candidate must be proficient in reading and writing, hold a current driver’s license and must pass a background check.
