Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for an Emergency Department position requiring an active IL RN license and 2 years of ER experience.

Details

>Level I Trauma Center hospital with a Level III NICU, Primary Stroke Center, and Comprehensive Cardiac Center
Emergency Department with 28 beds, including 11 hallway beds and 4 triage rooms
Average of 120 patient visits per day
Patient population includes sepsis, DKA, MI, stroke, IVDA, ETOH, and ortho-trauma cases, predominantly ages 65+ with multiple comorbidities
Heavy psych and addiction population with acuity levels weighted toward ESI 2-3
RN to patient ratio of 1:3-6 based on acuity
ER Techs support at a 1:14 ratio
Rotating shifts including 10a-10p and 2p-2a
Standard 36 hours per week
Weekend rotation of every 3rd weekend
No floating required
No on-call or call-back requirements
24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage on the unit
ER physician coverage 10a-10p (5 per shift) and 2a-8a (1 per shift)
Mid-level provider (PA) coverage 10a-10p in the triage area
Telemetry monitoring available at bedside and at the nurse's station
Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors

Requirements

Active IL RN license required
Minimum 2 years of ER experience required, with Level I Trauma experience preferred
Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC (CPI/MOAB preferred)
Trauma certification required along with stroke experience and cardiac rhythm interpretation skills
Comfortable with vent management, critical care drip management, TPA administration, conscious sedation, and assisting with splinting
Proficient in basic nursing skills including NGT placement, IV starts, foley placement, and wound care
Strong assessment and communication skills with a focus on positive patient experience
EPIC EMR experience required
Minimum 12 months of core ER experience within the last year required for consideration
At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration

Additional Information

Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity, high-volume Emergency Department
Collaborate with ER techs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and mid-level providers as part of a multidisciplinary care team
Charge nurse is actively involved in bedside care and serves as a clinical support resource
Facility has received the Emergency Nurses Lantern Award and holds Magnet designation
Geriatric accredited Emergency Department
Orientation includes NEO and one shift of unit-specific orientation
Holiday coverage required for 50% of holidays within the contract
Time off requests must be approved through the unit manager
Navy blue scrubs required

Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible
