We are currently hiring for an Engineering Technician in our Alpharetta, GA office. This position is responsible for supporting the Engineering team by assembling, testing, troubleshooting, programming, and validating electronic hardware and engineering prototypes. Working closely with engineers, this individual will follow detailed technical procedures, perform hands-on testing, document results, and assist with the development and validation of new products and production tools. A strong aptitude for electronics, attention to detail, surface mount soldering skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to follow technical instructions are critical to success in this role.
Engineering Support
- Support engineers with product development, prototype builds, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
- Follow engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and written technical procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation of testing activities, build records, and engineering data.
- Assist with multiple engineering projects while maintaining quality, organization, and attention to detail.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and testing environments to ensure a safe and efficient workspace.
Engineering Testing & Validation
- Perform hardware testing by following detailed engineering procedures and test plans.
- Set up, configure, and operate electronic test equipment for hardware and cellular communication devices.
- Execute validation testing, accurately document results, and communicate findings to engineers.
- Assist in evaluating test results and refining testing procedures to improve product performance and reliability.
- Support the verification of new hardware, firmware, and production processes.
Hardware Assembly & Prototyping
- Assemble electronic devices, prototypes, and engineering test fixtures from engineering drawings and documentation.
- Build, program, test, and validate internally developed production equipment and automated tools.
- Assemble, modify, and troubleshoot printed circuit boards and electronic assemblies.
- Perform precision soldering, rework, and repair of through-hole and surface mount (SMT) electronic components.
- Verify completed assemblies meet engineering and quality specifications.
Required Skills
- Proficient in soldering surface mount (SMT/SMD) electronic components (Required).
- Strong understanding of electronic components and basic electronic circuits.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience using common electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies is preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow detailed technical procedures with minimal supervision.
- Strong desire to learn and grow within an engineering environment.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining accuracy and quality.
Essential Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, and reach while assembling and testing electronic equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Ability to use hand tools, soldering equipment, computers, keyboards, and electronic test equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to work safely in an electronics laboratory and production environment.
- Ability to safely use a step ladder as needed to perform job duties.
Education
- Associate Degree, Technical Diploma, or Certificate in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related technical field preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline will also be considered.
- Equivalent hands-on electronics experience may be considered.
Experience
- Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Hands-on experience with electronics through school projects, internships, personal projects, or previous employment is preferred.
- Experience assembling and testing electronic hardware is a plus.
