Job Summary
The Lead Teacher for the Four-Year-Old Classroom creates a safe, nurturing, and joyful environment where children learn through play, exploration, and meaningful relationships. Rooted in Christian values, the teacher fosters each child's social, emotional, spiritual, physical, and cognitive development while helping children discover God's love through everyday interactions.
The Lead Teacher plans and implements a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum that encourages curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and early independence. Working collaboratively with the Preschool Director and classroom assistants, the teacher builds strong partnerships with families and contributes to a welcoming Christian school community.
- Class instruction: 5 hours per day
- Planning, preparation, and Family Communication: 2 hours per day
- Schedule: 4 days per week

Faith and Mission Expectations
The Lead Teacher is expected to support and uphold the mission of the preschool and its Christian ministry. Through words and actions, the teacher models kindness, patience, integrity, and Christ-like love while fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all children and families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and lead a three-year-old preschool classroom using a play-based, child-centered approach.
- Create a warm, engaging environment where children feel valued, secure, and encouraged to explore.
- Guide children in developing positive relationships, self-regulation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Incorporate Christian values and age-appropriate Bible stories, songs, prayers, and celebrations into daily activities.
- Plan, supervise, and implement the classroom programming in accordance with the policies and
- philosophy of the school.
- Adapt the programming to the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, limitations, special talents, and style and pace of learning.
- Consider individual children in relation to their cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Treat each child with dignity and respect.
- Help each of the children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
- Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, maintenance, and learning environment of the classroom.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Participate in training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth.
- Collaborate effectively with classroom assistants, including communicating about expectations and materials needed several days in advance of class.
- Assist in public relations events sponsored by the school
- Strive to be a positive Christian role model.
Responsibilities to the Children
- Critique curriculum used in preschool
- Assist in planning orientation for incoming children
- Evaluate children’s progress via a progress report
- Assist in developing a nutritional snack program
- Coordinate field trips with parents and other staff members
- Confer with the preschool Director and parents regarding concerns about a child.
- Provide the preschool Director with a list of needed supplies and equipment.
- Clean Kitchenette per the schedule.
Responsibilities to the Parents
- Contribute to the newsletter as requested by the Director
- Assist in planning and orientation for incoming families
- Assist in scheduling conference days.
- Confer with the Director regarding visits and parent volunteers.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in early childhood education or 90 hour equivalent.
- 12 hours of continuing education
- Teaching experience with demonstrated understanding of child development and
- developmentally appropriate practices.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Preschool Director and other staff.
- Successful completion of MD state mandated fingerprinting and background checks.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to actively supervise young children both indoors and outdoors.
- Frequently bend, kneel, squat, sit on the floor, and move throughout the classroom.
- Lift and carry children or classroom materials weighing up to 35 pounds when necessary.
- Participate in active play, outdoor activities, and classroom cleanup.
Compensation
- Starting pay in excess of $19 per hour will be considered for candidates with experience.
Pay: From $19.00 per hour
