Personal Trainer / Performance Coach Job Description

The Personal Trainer / Performance Coach is responsible for delivering high-quality personal training and performance coaching services to members and clients of Mid-Cape Athletic Club. This role plays an important part in creating an exceptional member experience by providing individualized coaching, fostering strong relationships, and contributing to the growth and success of the Performance Department.
Role Overview:
The Personal Trainer / Performance Coach serves as an ambassador for the Performance Department, helping members and athletes achieve their health, fitness, and performance goals through one-on-one, semi-private, and small group training sessions. This position works closely with the Director of Performance and Head Trainer to ensure consistency in programming, coaching standards, and the overall member experience.
All programming and coaching methods are expected to align with the vision, standards, and systems established by the Director of Performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement science-based individualized training programs safely and effectively based on client goals, abilities, health history, and performance needs, as approved or overseen by the Director of Performance.
- Conduct one-on-one, semi-private, and small group training sessions while educating clients on exercise technique and movement quality.
- Monitor client progress and communicate updates or concerns with the Director of Performance as appropriate.
- Actively engage members on the fitness floor and introduce personal training and performance services to prospective clients. Assist with new member onboarding, fitness orientations, and introductory training sessions as needed.
- Assist with cleaning, organizing, and maintaining the fitness center and performance training room, including equipment upkeep and ensuring spaces are prepared for client use.
- Attend and collaborate with fellow coaches and staff at department meetings and participate in continuing education and staff training opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Previous personal training and/or performance coaching experience required.
- Experience working with athletes, active older adults, and special populations.
- Strong understanding of exercise science, functional movement, and program design.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate clients and adjust programming based on various fitness levels and capabilities.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Certifications:
- Required:
- Nationally recognized Personal Training Certification (NASM, ACSM, NSCA, ACE, ISSA, or equivalent)
- CPR/AED Certification
- CFSC (Certified Functional Strength Coach) (upon 90 days of hire)
- Preferred:
- CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist)
- Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, Sports Science, Kinesiology or equivalent.
- Specialty certifications in corrective exercise, sports performance, youth fitness, senior fitness, or small group training.

Hours & Reporting:
- Schedule is based on client demand and departmental needs and may include mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Reports directly to the Director of Performance and Head Trainer.
This role plays a key part in the continued growth of Mid-Cape Athletic Club by delivering exceptional coaching experiences, supporting member success, and contributing to the overall performance and culture of the club.
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10.0 – 20.0 per week
