Position Overview
The Controller is responsible for managing the collection and recording of all pertinent finance and accounting data and transactions. This includes oversight of general ledgers, accounts payables/receivables, billings, audits and reporting and assisting with the annual budget. The Controller is responsible for hiring, training and management of all accounting associates. In addition, the Controller will oversee grants accounting and payroll.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the accounting department including but not limited to daily balancing of bank accounts, liquidity monitoring, complete daily, weekly, and monthly general ledger reconciliations. Maintain and review general ledger accounts to ensure the accuracy of financial records and the clearing of outstanding items in a timely manner.
- Leads the monthly financial close including timely recording of journal entries, reconciliations, preparation of financial reports and budget variance analysis. Responsible for maintaining fixed asset records, depreciation schedules and investment portfolio accounting.
- Measures, monitors, and reports financial + accounting performance metrics to leadership that are useful for decision making. Examines results to look for growth opportunities, cost savings and increased earnings.
- Coordinates year-end activities, including audits, audit schedules, cost reports, and tax information returns.
- Prepares special reports upon request and regularly informs COO regarding the status of accounts and financial activity.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, data gathering, and completion of goals, metrics and deadlines.
· Assist in preparation of the annual budget process, budget analysis, forecasting and the monitoring of the same, as directed by the President + CEO and COO.
· Prepare accurate Financial Statements and corresponding reports within the monthly and quarterly deadlines.
· Devise and implement efficient and effective policies and internal control procedures.
· Manage the payroll function ensuring efficient systems, process and controls for payroll as well as the payment of the associated employee benefits.
· Oversee government grant budgets, financial reports, reconciliations, and claim submittals to government agencies and other granting organizations.
· Prepare supporting external audit schedules, external tax schedules, and interface with auditors and tax advisors as needed.
- Develop a high-performance team culture focused on leadership and accountability at all levels, continuous learning, collaboration, measurement, and goal achievement by modeling the way and enabling others to act.
- Set performance goals for team members that align to CTFB’s strategy and evaluate performance against goals on a regular basis.
- Effectively coach team members and provide supportive and developmental feedback to enhance performance. Ensure that team members develop the technical, leadership and professional skills necessary for success.

Relationships
Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, this position is highly visible internally with 3 direct reports. The Controller partners with cross-functional departments to execute and carry out organizational priorities and objectives. The Controller is a supportive role to the COO and leadership regarding strategic and financial/accounting trends and issues. The role must continually demonstrate credibility by matching words and actions, listening effectively, and serving as an engaged problem solver of accounting issues.
