Overview

Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Optometric Assistant / Tech, where your enthusiasm and precision will directly enhance patient care and operational efficiency. In this vital role, you will support eye care professionals by preparing patients for examinations, operating specialized ophthalmic equipment, and ensuring a smooth clinical workflow. Your proactive approach and attention to detail will help deliver exceptional eye health services in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in ophthalmology and medical office procedures while making a meaningful difference in patients’ vision health.

Responsibilities

Assist with patient intake by collecting medical histories, updating electronic health records (EHR) with accuracy and confidentiality.
Perform vital signs measurements such as eye pressure, vision, and other relevant physiological data to support ophthalmic assessments.
Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment including Visual Fields, Optos, OCT, Autorefractor, ERG, tonometry devices, and other ophthalmic diagnostic tools to facilitate comprehensive eye examinations.
Prepare patients for ophthalmic examinations by explaining procedures, maintaining aseptic techniques, and ensuring patient comfort throughout the process.
Support optometrists during eye refraction tests, anterior segment examinations, and other clinical procedures requiring technical expertise.
Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies to protect patient privacy at all times.
Enter information into electronic health records (EHR/EHR) systems efficiently. ensuring accurate documentation of patient test results.
Assist with inventory management of medical supplies.
Provide excellent patient service by addressing questions professionally, guiding patients through their visit process, and fostering a welcoming environment focused on compassionate care.
Open and close exam rooms, uncover/cover equipment, and help in maintaining diagnostic contact lenses.

Experience

Prior experience in a medical office setting is highly preferred, especially within ophthalmology or optometry practices.
Familiarity with medical terminology related to eye health and anatomy enhances your ability to support clinical staff effectively.
Hands-on experience operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as tonometers, Optos or other ophthalmic devices is advantageous.
Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems for using electronic health records efficiently is beneficial.
Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality is required to uphold clinical confidentiality policies.
Experience with intake procedures, vital signs collection, and direct patient care roles will help you excel in this position.
Retail math skills are useful for managing inventory levels of optical supplies when applicable.
