Job Description

We are looking for a criminal law paralegal to assist our criminal law attorneys with a wide variety of tasks, including communicating with clients, helping draft motions & petitions to be filed in district and superior court, and helping lawyers prepare for trials. More tasks include:

Researching, preparing, proofing, editing legal documents

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Staff multiple-phone lines, take messages and redirect calls when appropriate

Ability to communicate in an effective and professional manor both verbally and in writing

Conduct initial screenings of clients and facilitate electronic intakes

Open, maintain, manage, and close client files

Good time-management skills

Prepare and manage multiple calendars and agendas, provide timely reminders to attorneys and staff, and ensure deadlines are met

Work effectively with a diverse group of clients

Handling confidential client or case information

Contacting courts to obtain evidence and transcripts

Organizing legal files

Undertaking general office work

Qualifications

Good written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure

High organized with ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Strong project management and organizational skills

Focused attention on detail

Proficient technology skills, including but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Calendar, and Clio

Must be willing to work with a diverse group of clients, including criminal clients

Ability to manage confidential information and sensitive situations with tact and discretion

Solid understanding of, and demonstrated ability to comply with confidentiality requirements

North Carolina Paralegal Certification (preferred)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

8 hour shift
