Full Job Description

Division: Education

Reports to: MNTRECC Program Manager

Worksite: Miikogin (School Age Center)- Cass Lake

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Safety Sensitive: Yes

License/Certification Requirements: Must have a valid MN Driver's License, current insurance or be insurable.

Summary: Works in conjunction with the Child Care Aware (CCA) Coordinating Office to develop and implement strategies to build relationships and offer support to Tribal Childcare licensed providers & Early Childhood caregivers throughout the state. This person will collaborate with Child Care Aware, First Children's Finance, DCYF and other identified entities in planning and implementing capacity building strategies.

Minimum Education Requirements and Experience:

Possess a High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) is required.

Associate's Degree in Early Childhood preferred.

8 approved credits in Early Childhood or a current CDA credential preferred.

Practical experience working directly with young children in an early childhood setting required.

Knowledge of MN Rule 2 and/or Rule 3 Child Care Licensing Regulations preferred.

Experience working within the tribal communities is required.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

Experience/skills in public relations and public speaking are required.

Ability to relate to people from many backgrounds is required.

Ability to deal with conflicting situations in a patient and sensitive manner is required.

Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision is required.

Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize workload is required.

Native American Preference.

Annual physical and TB test is required.

Excellent computer application skills with experience in Microsoft Windows & Internet access is required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills is required.

Pre-employment and random drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe positions.

Ability to travel throughout the state on a possibly regular basis is required.

Have knowledge of Native American values, lifestyles and the culture.

Supervisory Duties:

None

Duties/Responsibilities:

Administrative:

Be knowledgeable of the current MNTRECC Work Plan.

Participate in planning, problem solving and implementation of program services working closely with management to ensure effective delivery of services.

Attend all meetings, committee work and in-service training that are required according to plans.

Prepare reports on state wide program activities and share with program staff as requested.

Maintain a list of Tribally Licensed Programs state-wide.

Maintain a list of all data requests for the MNTRECC Program.

Partnerships & Public Relations:

Identify local and statewide agencies and tribal organizations to develop and relationships in order to share program information, determine support needs and resources, and coordinate work/activities.

Promote and advocate for early childhood care and education.

Create and implement a local and statewide public relations plan.

Attend CCA Marketing Communication Advisory Meetings.

Update and purchase of public relations materials to be used for program activities.

Compile local and statewide outreach packets.

Collect and share information and statistics with other tribal childcare and CCA programs.

Participate on various committees, boards or community groups as appropriate.

Provide new “Welcome Provider Packet” to tribal childcare programs when new programs open.

Conduct Metro Workgroup meetings quarterly and support MWG activities when needed.

Attend Northland Foundation meetings in Duluth on a quarterly basis and support activities when needed.

Outreach & Access:

Follow the MNTRECC Wayfinder Plan and assist in the creation/update of the plan.

Distribute local and statewide mailings, including a quarterly newsletter to Tribal Child Care Providers and MNTRECC Stakeholders.

Disseminate information on childcare issues to local and statewide communities and agencies.

Conduct presentations and outreach booths to inform community of program services.

Provide a Tribal Child Care Appreciation event on an annual basis.

Maintain the MNTRECC website and Facebook.

General:

Work cooperatively as a member of a team and promote team work with co-workers.

Periodically make presentations as requested.

Submit adequate and timely reports to management upon request and as necessary.

Continually seek on-going career development.

Follow the recommendations of administrative staff when program improvement is needed.

Attend program activities outside normal working hours.

Maintain a valid MN driver's license to continue employment.

Attend other meeting, training sessions, workshops, classes and conferences to improve job performance.

Engage in on-going assessments to ensure quality of services is being provided.

Assist program in any other appropriate way after necessary duties are completed.

Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.

Responsible for keeping work area neat and orderly.

Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.

Physical Requirements:

Be able to lift 50 pounds or more and use proper body mechanics.

Be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Sedentary work.

Subject to internal working conditions.

Non-smoking environment.

Compensation: DOQ
