Additionally, you would do remote service for clients, either by zoom sessions, or by accessing their devices from our secure VPN connections and assisting with computer desktop support, helping them install the latest security and video software, or doing routine firmware updates to their vast array of IoT devices that we support.

What Are the Responsibilities of a Tech Support Person?

We complete a wide range of specific tasks to ensure that all aspects of the client’s technology systems are in good health. These tasks include:

Computer desktop support, helping them install the latest security or video software, or doing routine firmware updates to their vast array of IoT devices that we support.

We may walk clients through doing a function on their alarm keypad, app or computer. We may help them program functions and rules for their alarm, access, video system, or IoT device, or simply need to send them an electronic manual for their records.

And of course, do documentation and billing of our work

Are there Education Requirements for Tech Support Jobs?

You must at least a GED or a high school diploma to be considered. You must have a valid driver’s license. In addition, you should to have a good fundamental knowledge of Networking. Being a good and quick learner is a must for this position.

If you want to stand out and accelerate your advancement in this field, additional certifications can help to land the most valuable clients. Additional qualifications include:

Bachelor’s or associate degrees in Electrical Engineering, IT, or Computer Networking.

Microsoft Certification, and online courses in Networking, and Router.

Joining and studying under organizations like Microsoft and other manufacture offerings.

What Skills Do I Need?

You should have a good foundational knowledge of the Networking, and should have a basic understanding of doing remote meetings like Zoom or Teams.

You also need to have strong written and verbal communication skills, as you will need to interact with team members, clients, and management. As you progress, it is vital to have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

The average annual compensation in Oregon and SW Washington is $36,900.
