Overview:
The Michigan Community Health Worker Alliance (MiCHWA) is seeking a detail-oriented Contract Data Specialist to support the Rural Health Transformation Community Health Worker (CHW) Workforce Project. This role will support the collection, organization, validation, documentation, analysis, and reporting of workforce data across rural and partially rural Michigan.
The Data Specialist will work collaboratively with MiCHWA's project team, evaluation partner, and workforce data infrastructure vendor to help develop and maintain reliable workforce datasets, strengthen data quality, support analysis and visualization, and establish documentation that supports repeatable workforce measurement.
This is a 1099 independent contractor position, primarily remote/work from home, compensated at $26 per hour for approximately 800 total project hours, averaging approximately 150 hours per month based on project needs. Equipment and necessary project technology will be provided for the duration of the contract.
About MiCHWA
The Michigan Community Health Worker Alliance (MiCHWA) is a collaborative 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and statewide leader in Community Health Worker (CHW) workforce development, training, credentialing, registry administration, employer engagement, and advocacy. Since 2011, MiCHWA has worked alongside CHWs, CHW employers, healthcare and public health organizations, community partners, state agencies, and other stakeholders across Michigan.
MiCHWA's mission is to promote and sustain the integration of CHWs into Michigan's health and human services organizations through coordinated changes in policy and workforce development. Equity and CHW leadership are central to this work, with CHWs actively represented throughout MiCHWA's governance, staff, programs, and initiatives.
Through statewide partnerships, training and credentialing, workforce data and infrastructure, employer support, technical assistance, and policy initiatives, MiCHWA advances its vision that Michigan has a trained and sustained CHW workforce.
Responsibilities
- Collect, organize, clean, validate, and maintain CHW workforce assessment data from multiple approved sources.
- Review data for completeness, consistency, duplication, accuracy, and usability.
- Integrate survey, workforce roster, employer, and secondary-source data into organized project datasets.
- Develop and maintain data dictionaries, indicator definitions, source documentation, and data-quality records.
- Support analysis of workforce indicators, including workforce size, credentialing, roles, employer characteristics, geography, organizational readiness, training needs, care integration, priority populations, and related measures.
- Prepare analysis-ready datasets and support descriptive analyses, summary tables, charts, and reporting.
- Support geographic, employer, workforce, and population-level stratification of project data.
- Identify and document data-quality issues, participation gaps, missing information, and limitations affecting analysis.
- Support development and quality review of dashboards and data visualizations.
- Collaborate with MiCHWA staff, the project's evaluation partner, and workforce data infrastructure vendor on data preparation, validation, analysis, and reporting.
- Support structured data updates and documentation necessary for longitudinal workforce measurement.
- Maintain appropriate data security, confidentiality, governance, and documentation standards.
- Support data-related project reporting and deliverables.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in public health, healthcare, data analytics, statistics, evaluation, social sciences, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience cleaning, validating, organizing, or analyzing quantitative datasets.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and ability to work effectively with data from multiple sources.
- Ability to identify missing, duplicate, inconsistent, or potentially inaccurate data.
- Experience maintaining organized datasets, data dictionaries, or other technical documentation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
- Ability to work independently on project deliverables while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Public health, healthcare, Medicaid, workforce, survey, evaluation, or community-based data.
- Community Health Worker or rural health initiatives.
- Workforce assessments, surveys, registries, or program evaluation.
- Qualtrics, REDCap, Power BI, Tableau, or similar data and visualization platforms.
- Geographic, population health, chronic disease, social vulnerability, or workforce indicators.
- Government or grant-funded projects.
Contract Details
This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement compensated at $26.00 per hour, with approximately 800 total project hours anticipated and an estimated average of approximately 150 hours per month. Actual hours may fluctuate based on project needs and deliverables.
The work is primarily remote/work from home, with participation in scheduled virtual project meetings and occasional in-person project activities as needed.
MiCHWA will provide equipment and necessary project technology for the duration of the contract to facilitate secure access to project systems and information. Equipment remains the property of MiCHWA and must be returned at the conclusion of the engagement. This contract does not include employee benefits.
