About:

The White Hart Inn, located in Salisbury CT, is seeking a sous chef to join our team! The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment and a strong understanding of food safety and preparation techniques with a minimum of 1 year of kitchen experience. Duties would include setting up, organizing, and working a station on the line.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join our culinary team. Reporting to the Executive Chef, you will play a key leadership role in daily kitchen operations, maintaining the highest standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented cook ready to step into a leadership position in a beautiful, high-volume inn and restaurant setting in the Litchfield Hills

Key Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and service during all shifts.
Assist the Executive Chef with menu development, recipe standardization, and seasonal specials using fresh, local ingredients.
Maintain strict standards for food quality, taste, presentation, portion control, and food safety (HACCP/ServSafe practices).
Supervise, train, motivate, and schedule kitchen staff; lead by example on the line.
Manage inventory, ordering, and food costs to ensure profitability without compromising quality.
Step in as the lead when the Executive Chef is absent.
Ensure a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment at all times.
Collaborate with front-of-house team for smooth service and guest satisfaction.
Support special events, private dining, and inn guest experiences.
Qualifications
3–5+ years of progressive culinary experience, with at least 1–2 years in a sous chef or strong lead line cook role.
Experience in fine dining, inn/tavern, or high-volume restaurant environments preferred.
Strong knowledge of various cooking techniques, knife skills, and kitchen equipment.
Passion for seasonal, local, and thoughtfully prepared cuisine (New England and British-inspired influences a plus).
ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification preferred.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
