With multiple locations, a growing team, and a vibrant company culture, we’re continuing to expand and we’re looking for an experienced HR professional who enjoys being an influential part of a small, collaborative organization.
About the Role
Mason Music is seeking a part-time HR Manager to lead and manage the day-to-day Human Resources functions for our growing team.

The ideal candidate has prior HR Generalist or HR Manager experience and is comfortable working independently in a small-business environment where priorities can change quickly and everyone wears a lot of hats. You’ll work closely with employees, managers, and our Leadership Team, providing practical HR guidance while helping us build and improve the systems and processes that support our growing organization.
This role requires someone who is flexible, reliable, highly organized, professional, resourceful, and comfortable handling sensitive situations with discretion and empathy.

- Communicate professionally and promptly with candidates throughout the hiring process.
- Prepare and present job offers in partnership with leadership.
- Coordinate background checks, new-hire paperwork, and pre-employment requirements.
- Track recruiting activity and hiring metrics and maintain talent pipelines for future needs.

- Serve as a primary HR resource for employees and managers.
- Provide guidance on performance, attendance, conduct, workplace concerns, and company policies.
- Help managers navigate difficult employee situations and provide appropriate coaching and documentation.
- Respond to employee concerns and complaints and help facilitate conflict resolution when appropriate.
- Assist with corrective action, written warnings, performance improvement plans, and other performance-management processes.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee matters.
- Escalate significant or high-risk matters to leadership or outside professionals when appropriate.
HR Policies & Compliance
- Develop, maintain, and communicate HR policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Maintain and update the Mason Music Staff Handbook.
- Monitor applicable employment requirements and identify potential compliance concerns.
- Support compliance with wage and hour requirements, employee classification, leave and PTO policies, benefits requirements, and other employment regulations.
- Partner with leadership and outside advisors when specialized legal or compliance guidance is needed.
Benefits, Payroll & HR Administration
- Administer employee benefits, including enrollment, eligibility changes, and terminations.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees and benefits vendors.
- Administer PTO and leave processes and maintain accurate records.
- Review employee timekeeping and payroll information in Gusto and identify discrepancies.

- Support initiatives that improve employee engagement, retention, and the overall employee experience.
- Partner with managers and leadership to identify and address recurring employee concerns or workplace trends.
- Help ensure employees have clear expectations, appropriate resources, and effective communication.
- Identify opportunities to make HR processes and the employee experience more efficient and effective as the company grows.
HR Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain and improve HR systems and processes.
- Manage HR-related functions within Gusto and other company platforms.
- Track key HR metrics related to recruiting, turnover, retention, and staffing.
- Identify outdated or inefficient processes and recommend improvements.

Required:
- Prior professional experience in an HR Generalist, HR Manager, or similar broad HR role.
- Strong working knowledge of core HR functions, including recruiting, employee relations, benefits, payroll administration, and employment compliance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment with sensitive information.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Professional, dependable, and responsive approach to working with employees and managers.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and solving problems without always having a predefined process.
- Genuine interest in supporting employees and creating a positive workplace.
Especially helpful:
- Experience working in a small business or growing organization.
- Experience managing HR for a multi-location or hourly workforce.
- Experience with Gusto or similar HR/payroll systems.

Who Will Thrive in This Role?
This position is a great fit for an experienced HR professional who likes being hands-on and wants to make a meaningful impact in a growing small business.
You should be comfortable being the person who gets the question, figures out the answer, builds the process, and follows through. Some days may involve recruiting and interviewing candidates; others may involve helping a manager navigate an employee issue, reviewing payroll, updating a policy, or troubleshooting a benefits question.
We're looking for someone who can shift gears quickly, stay organized, communicate clearly, and approach people-related challenges with both professionalism and empathy.

- Part-time, hourly position
- Approximately 20–30 hours per week
- Additional hours may occasionally be needed during particularly busy periods or seasonal hiring periods.
- Flexible scheduling within the needs of the business.
- Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
Why Mason Music?
