About BSP

Building Skills Partnership BSP is an award-winning nonprofit and nationally recognized for its innovative approach to workforce development and immigrant integration.

Founded in 2007, BSP offers programs throughout California, serving Los Angeles, Oakland, Orange County, Palo Alto, Sacramento, San Diego, and San Jose. BSP is a 501(c)3 non-profit and has strong collaborations with SEIU-United Service Workers West, commercial real estate partners, airports, building owners, and community leaders. The organization offers career and education programs that enable workers’ personal and professional success.

Mission

Building Skills Partnership mission is to improve the quality of life for property service workers from low-wage industries and their families by increasing their skills, access to education, and opportunities for career and community advancement.

Position Overview

The Grant Writer will work with the Development Team to implement Building Skills Partnership’s (BSP) fundraising strategy statewide. Under the direction of the Development Director and Development and Grant Coordinator, the Grant Writer will primarily focus on proposal writing and grant reporting with some foundation research activities to support BSP. Duties will include developing foundation and corporate proposals, preparing reports, supporting grants compliance, and writing printed materials as needed. This position is offered as part time, requiring approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Working statewide with seven training centers, BSP’s mission is to improve the quality of life for low-wage property service workers and their families by increasing their skills, access to education and opportunities for career and community advancement. BSP manages a diverse portfolio of foundation, corporate, and public grants supporting workforce development, community advancement, immigrant integration, and systems change initiatives across California. BSP’s annual operating budget exceeds $7 million.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include drafting grant proposals and reports and monitoring grant compliance.
Outline, write and edit grant applications, grant reports and other fundraising documents. This work depends on strong writing skills, a high-level command of grammar and spelling, and cohesive storytelling abilities.
Write grant proposals and reports in accordance with the grant-making organization's preferences and follow exactly each grant-making organization's guidelines.
Coordinate compliance for awarded grants to ensure good organizational standing with the funder. Keep track of report deadlines throughout the life cycle of each grant, liaise with program staff, and develop internal benchmarks for meeting grant deliverables.
Collaborate with Program Directors, Coordinators, Finance, and executive leadership to gather information, program outcomes, budgets, and supporting documentation for proposals and reports.
Maintain accurate records of prospects, submissions, and funder engagement activities within organizational tracking systems.
Organize BSP’s fundraising documents, grants outcomes, and schedule of deadlines. Work with the Development Coordinator and BSP staff to stay on timeline.
Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and communicate proactively in a remote work environment.

Experience & Education:

At least 1 year of direct work experience in grant writing for development.
Experience writing successful foundation and corporate grant proposals is strongly preferred. Familiarity with workforce development, labor-management partnerships, immigrant integration, economic mobility, education, or Latino-serving organizations is highly desirable.
Ability to manage multiple projects and effectively prioritize while working collaboratively.
Flexibility in meeting deadlines and adjusting to changing priorities.
Excellent writing skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to exercise discretion and hold confidential all business matters pertaining to BSP.
B.A. degree (preferred)

Pay: $35.00 per hour

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Los Angeles, CA 90015
