Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Director of Programs is responsible for the strategic leadership, management, and execution of all Wellness in Action (WIA) programs. This role oversees program operations, directs program strategy, and ensures the delivery of high-quality, community-responsive services that advance WIA’s mission.

Working closely with the Executive Director, the Director of Programs leads program planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement. The role supervises the Community Health Worker (CHW) team and manages WIA’s counseling partnerships, ensuring coordinated, effective, and accessible care for the Big Sky community.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Strategy

· Provide strategic direction for all WIA programs, aligning services with community needs and organizational priorities.

· Develop annual program goals and performance metrics.

· Identify opportunities for program growth, innovation, and expansion based on data and community input.

· Lead program evaluation efforts and use data to drive continuous improvement and impact measurement.

· Advise the Executive Director and Board on program strategy using data, trends, and best practices.

Program Operations

· Oversee the day-to-day operations of all WIA programs to ensure efficient, high-quality service delivery.

· Establish and maintain systems, policies, and procedures that support effective program implementation.

· Monitor program quality, outcomes, and client experience across all services.

· Ensure compliance with grant requirements, contracts, and applicable regulations.

· Oversee scheduling and utilization of WIA counseling spaces and related program logistics.

Community Health Worker (CHW) Supervision

· Directly supervise and support the Community Health Worker team.

· Provide coaching, training, and professional development to ensure high-quality client support and service coordination.

· Conduct regular team and individual meetings, performance evaluations, and goal-setting.

· Ensure CHWs are effectively connecting clients to appropriate health, behavioral health, and social service resources.

· Strengthen CHW workflows, documentation practices, and use of data systems.

Provider & Community Partnerships

· Manage and strengthen relationships with counseling providers and partner organizations delivering behavioral health services.

· Coordinate with contracted providers to ensure service quality, accessibility, and alignment with WIA standards.

· Monitor provider contracts, utilization, and performance.

· Identify and develop new partnerships to expand access to mental and behavioral health services.

· Build and maintain relationships with healthcare providers, social service agencies, employers, and community organizations to reduce barriers to care and improve referral systems.

· Represent WIA at community meetings, coalitions, and events to promote awareness and utilization of WIA programs.

· Identify system-level barriers to care and collaborate on solutions with partners.

Data, Administration & Funding Support

· Oversee program data collection, management, and reporting systems.

· Analyze program data to inform decision-making, demonstrate impact, and support storytelling.

· Support grant reporting and compliance, including tracking outputs and outcomes.

· Contribute to grant writing and funding development efforts for program sustainability and growth.

· Ensure accurate documentation, billing coordination, and administrative processes related to program services.

Experience & Education

· Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, psychology, nonprofit management, or a related field.

· Minimum of 3 years of experience in program management, human services, or nonprofit leadership.

· Experience supervising staff and managing community-based programs.

· Familiarity with behavioral health systems, care coordination, or community health models preferred.

· Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.

· Experience with data systems, program evaluation, and grant-funded programs is a plus.

Wellness in Action (WIA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Big Sky, Montana, committed to strengthening community wellbeing through a broad range of mental and behavioral health programs. WIA provides reduced-cost counseling, free wraparound support through Community Health Workers, community education and outreach, and youth scholarship programs—ensuring access to care and support for all members of the community. Together, these programs expand access to care, address barriers for underserved populations, and ensure that individuals and families in Big Sky have the resources they need to thrive.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position offering a competitive salary and benefits package, including paid time off, holidays, health insurance contribution, and professional development opportunities.

Salary range: $70,000-$80,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
