Pioneer Medical Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital, essentially the county hospital for Sweet Grass County, Montana: Population 3700. We are in a beautiful valley along the Yellowstone River, between three mountain ranges, just north of Yellowstone National Park. We serve our neighbors (ranchers, skilled trades people and active retirees) and the many tourists who come here on their way to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, or to fish the Yellowstone, hike, bike, hunt or just get away from overcrowded places. Pioneer Medical Center has an immediate opening for a full-time Occupational Therapist to join our hospital & outpatient care team.
PURPOSE/DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Occupational Therapist, under the supervision of the Rehabilitation Manager, shall provide occupational therapy to each resident/patient who requires these services to prevent avoidable physical and/or mental deterioration. Will also assist patients in obtaining or maintaining their highest practicable level of functioning and psychosocial well-being. Maintain and develop Occupational Therapy Program at Pioneer Medical Center.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develops collaborative relationships with physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners to enhance quality practice.
Provides ethical, safe, and quality Occupational Therapy care/treatment for residents/patients per standard of practice set forth in the American Occupational Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Guide for Professional Conduct as well as the State of Montana Occupational Therapy Examiners Rules and Statutes, and PMC policies and procedures.
Provides occupational therapy services and consultation to residents and patients in the following areas: consultation regarding implementation of OBRA mandates and ADA; restraint reduction; feeding, swallowing and restorative dining programs; recommendations for and training in use of adaptive equipment for dressing, feeding and avocational needs; upper extremity range of motion, exercises and fine motor coordination training; psycho-social and cognitive skills and how they affect long-term care residents; wheelchair fitting, postural control and mobility training; sensory/perceptual training; orthotic training and custom fabrication for upper extremity conditions; restorative aide service; hand therapy, ergonomic assessments and home evaluations.
Produces timely and accurate documentation of all patient care sessions in a timely manner and provides ethical charges/billing information to Patient Accounts Manager.
Interviews residents/patients to evaluate daily living skills and capacities and determine the extent of their abilities and limitations.
Participates in completing designated sections of the initial and comprehensive assessments of a resident’s occupational therapy needs, and the individualized care plan within the prescribed time frames.
Assists in developing the department’s annual operating and capital budget within financial expectations, accounts for variances. Seeks to develop PMC’s Occupational Therapy Program.
Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality. Participates and offers input in Quality Assurance activities.
Takes responsibility for identification of own professional growth and development needs; meets all system/departmental educational requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental, and outside agency safety standards as it relates to the environment, employee, and patient/resident safety.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university.
Montana occupational therapy license.
In good standing with current state licensing board.
Driver’s License in good standing in State of Montana. Minimum of two (2) years of experience with patient care.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal patient care environment in a long-term care, acute care, clinic setting. Physical demands that include, but may not be limited to, patient care duties that may involve lifting, bending, transferring patients of up to 400 pounds with the assistance of the care team or by using appropriate patient care equipment such as a Hoyer lift. Working environment with moderate noise level and possible regular physical, mental and emotional stress due to patient care situations and activities.

Blood Borne Pathogen Category: Category II: Tasks that may involve occasional exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, but are not a part of the routine job description. Appropriate protective measures are readily available to every employee engaged in Category II tasks.
