Middle School Athletic Director
Principal/Director
The Middle School Athletic Director is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, development, and supervision of the school's athletic program. The Athletic Director promotes academic achievement, sportsmanship, leadership, character development, and student-athlete success while ensuring compliance with all school, district, state, and athletic association policies and regulations.
Develop, implement, and oversee all middle school athletic programs and activities.
Coordinate and supervise athletic schedules, practices, games, tournaments, and special events.
Recruit, recommend, supervise, and evaluate coaches.
Ensure athletic programs align with the school's mission, vision, and values.
Promote participation and engagement in athletics among students.
Provide leadership, guidance, and support to all coaches.
Conduct regular meetings with coaching staff.
Ensure coaches comply with school policies, athletic regulations, and safety procedures.
Assist coaches with planning, budgeting, scheduling, and program development.
Monitor coach performance and provide feedback for improvement.
Promote academic success and positive behavior among student-athletes.
Foster sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and character development.
Ensure student-athletes meet eligibility requirements.
Address student-athlete concerns and disciplinary matters when necessary.
Develop and manage athletic budgets.
Monitor expenditures and maintain accurate financial records.
Coordinate purchasing and inventory of athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
Ensure proper maintenance and storage of athletic equipment.
Schedule contests, practices, transportation, officials, and facilities.
Coordinate game-day operations and event management.
Communicate schedules and updates to students, families, staff, and community members.
Ensure athletic facilities are prepared and maintained for safe use.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and athletic association rules and regulations.
Maintain records related to eligibility, participation, physical examinations, and required documentation.
Implement safety procedures and emergency action plans.
Coordinate concussion awareness, injury prevention, and student-athlete wellness initiatives.
Serve as the primary liaison between the school, families, athletic organizations, and the community.
Promote athletic programs through newsletters, social media, school communications, and community outreach.
Encourage family and community involvement in athletics.
Assist with fundraising activities and sponsorship opportunities.
Attend athletic events as assigned.
Assist with school-wide events and activities as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Head of School.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid teaching certificate or ability to meet school employment requirements.
Previous coaching experience.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Knowledge of middle school athletic programs and student development.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
Master's degree in Education, Sports Management, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
Previous experience as an Athletic Director or athletic administrator.
Experience with budgeting, scheduling, and program management.
CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification.
- CDL/School Bus Driver Certification
Strong leadership and team-building skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Knowledge of athletic rules, regulations, and risk management practices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and athletic management software.
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout athletic facilities for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays as required by athletic schedules.
Ability to travel to athletic events and meetings.
Coordinate athletic fundraisers
Transportation Coordination
Coordinate transportation needs for all athletic programs.
Certified school bus driver to transport athletes when necessary to and from athletic events and activities.
Ensure all transportation activities comply with school policies and state and federal safety regulations.
Conduct or verify required pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections and maintain transportation records as required.
- Ability to attend AHSAA Summer Conference
Ability to obtain and maintain all certifications required for school bus operation.
Ability to safely operate a school bus and other school vehicles.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and extended travel associated with athletic events.
