Structural Engineer
Position type: Full-time, Contract
Duration: 12 months, possible extension
Location: Birmingham, AL
Role Overview:
We’re on the lookout for a
forward-thinking Structural Engineer who thrives at the intersection of
design, technology, and manufacturing. This is not just a role it’s an opportunity to shape how buildings are conceived, designed, and fabricated using
BIM-driven workflows and
light gauge steel (CFS) systems.
In this role, you’ll act as the crucial link between
architectural vision and manufacturing precision, transforming BIM models into
fabrication-ready outputs using tools like
Autodesk Revit and Vertex BD. If you enjoy solving complex challenges, working hands-on with innovative systems, and driving efficiency through digital workflows this is for you.
What You’ll Do
Model, Design & Bring Ideas to Life
- Craft detailed 3D structural models in Revit and Vertex BD, turning concepts from sketches to constraints into intelligent BIM solutions.
- Translate design intent into precise, fabrication-ready outputs that seamlessly bridge design and production.
- Deliver high-quality shop drawings, structural documentation, and BIM deliverables.
Automate & Innovate Framing Systems
- Leverage Vertex BD to automate wall, floor, and roof framing designs for CFS and timber systems.
- Develop panelized and fabrication-ready designs optimized for modern construction workflows.
Engineer with Precision
- Perform structural analysis for gravity, lateral, and serviceability loads.
- Optimize designs for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and safety, without compromising compliance.
- Utilize integrated engineering tools to analyze framing systems with accuracy and confidence.
Collaborate Across Disciplines
- Work closely with architects, MEP teams, manufacturers, finance teams, and clients to deliver coordinated and buildable solutions.
- Lead and participate in BIM coordination, resolving clashes and ensuring seamless integration across systems.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
From Model to Machine
- Generate machine-readable CSV outputs for automated roll-forming and fabrication.
- Deliver accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to power procurement and production.
- Act as a bridge between engineering and manufacturing, ensuring ideas translate to reality.
- Get hands-on with production support when needed.
Ensure Excellence
- Uphold code compliance, quality standards, and BIM best practices.
- Conduct thorough reviews of models, drawings, and outputs for accuracy and constructability.
Who You Are
You’re more than an engineer you’re an

- Strong background in BIM-led structural design and modern construction systems
- Passion for innovation, automation, and improving design-to-manufacturing workflows

- A natural collaborator who can connect engineering with business, manufacturing, and design teams

Your Background
- Degree in Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (1–3 years’ experience)
OR
Diploma/degree in CAD Design (5–7 years’ experience)
- Experience with CFS (light gauge steel) framing systems
- Proficiency in Vertex BD and/or Revit (plus tools like SketchUp or Frame Builder is a bonus)
- Exposure to:
- Modular, panelized, or offsite construction
- Digital fabrication and automation workflows
- Innovation-led or pilot projects
- Proven experience working from concept to fabrication
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

PAY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range*: $48.00 - $51.15 per hour
- Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
