Full Job Description

Job Title: Engineering Document Control Assistant

SMC is seeking a detail-oriented Engineering Documentation Assistant to support project documentation and quality control processes. This is an entry-level position offering a clear path for growth into more technical roles, including opportunities in computer-aided drafting and 3D modeling using Autodesk Inventor.

Position Overview

In this role, you will be responsible for organizing, maintaining, and distributing engineering documentation across a variety of infrastructure and industrial projects, including work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Departments of Transportation (DOTs), railroads, and private owners. You will play a key role in ensuring documentation accuracy, compliance, and traceability throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and organize engineering documents, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper revision control
Prepare and manage quality control documentation, including weld tracking logs and related records
Coordinate documentation flow between engineers, project managers, quality control personnel, and customers
Submit engineering documentation through client-required platforms such as SharePoint, Microsoft 365, Procore, etc.
Track project documentation status and ensure timely submission of required deliverables
Assist in maintaining compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements
Support continuous improvement of document control processes and workflows

Qualifications

Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint)
Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
Acute understanding of the importance of data integrity
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Willingness to learn technical concepts and systems

Preferred (but not required)

Exposure to engineering, manufacturing, or construction environments
Basic understanding of technical documentation
Familiarity with document control systems or quality documentation processes
