Full Job Description

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and patients in a fast-paced foot and ankle specialty clinic. This position is responsible for assisting with patient care, preparing exam rooms, documenting medical information, performing clinical procedures within scope of practice, and ensuring an exceptional patient experience from check-in through follow-up care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Willing to travel to our Cortez Clinic once a month (transportation provided).

Average work week of 3-5 days (scheduled flexibly based on patient flow)

Clinic Hours are Monday - Thursday 8:00 - 5:00, Friday 8:00-4:00.

Clinical Responsibilities

Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical history, medication lists, and chief complaints.
Prepare patients for examination, treatments, and in-office procedures.
Apply and remove dressings, braces, walking boots, splints, and casts as directed.
Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and examination rooms.
Educate patients on treatment plans, postoperative instructions, wound care, medications, and use of durable medical equipment.
Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Administrative Responsibilities

Schedule appointments and coordinate follow-up visits.
Answer patient phone calls and respond to messages professionally.
Process prescription refill requests.
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Assist with maintaining clinic cleanliness and infection control standards.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Previous experience in the medical field preferred.
Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong understanding of medical terminology and basic anatomy.
Knowledge of sterile technique and infection control practices.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize in a busy clinical environment.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Compassionate, patient-focused attitude.
Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team.
Proficiency with computers and medical software.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds.
Ability to assist patients with mobility when necessary.

Work Environment

Fast-paced outpatient specialty clinic.
Frequent interaction with patients of all ages.
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other bodily fluids; appropriate PPE provided.
Regular daytime clinic hours with occasional schedule adjustments based on patient volume.
