Established in 1998 at Indiana University, the GlobalNOC's mission is to advance the future of research, education, and the public interest through the support and evolution of networks. With our staff of 120 plus, we provide comprehensive contracted network management services to over 30 large-scale networks. As part of Indiana University (IU), we operate as a non-profit; we focus on developing great technical staff, and providing excellent service to our clients.

Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Performs professional communications activities in support of GlobalNOC at Indiana University.
- Writes and edits communications, produces multimedia, creates educational materials, maintains social media and web content, or generates promotional pieces.
- Works may involve multiple consecutive projects and collaboration and consultation with other departments and employees.

Works with leadership to create basic communications for print and e-distribution on behalf of department or functional area within department and in support of departmental goals and objectives; communications may be interdepartmental; staff, faculty, or student-focused; or external.

Responds to inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications.

Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and creates communications coverage for relevant initiatives, events, and programs.

Prepares communications timelines and shares progress of communications toward relevant deadlines with manager, team members, and other relevant constituents.

Regularly monitors relevant social media and news sites; researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty.

Utilizes various communications software programs and delivers communications in multiple formats to a variety of audiences.

Working Conditions / Demands
This position requires the ability to communicate effectively and to operate computers and other related technical equipment. The role is required to maintain and interact with computers and frequently move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Additional Information
This internship focuses on helping GlobalNOC design, implement, and maintain a robust communications plan for ensuring the GlobalNOC community is well informed about all of the good work done by our team members. A key component of this work will include collaborating with members of the GlobalNOC team to collect, organize, and document information about our work. The internship would include utilizing modern, multi-channel communication resources to engage multiple stakeholders across different organizations, disciplines, and expertise levels.
This internship is ideal for students interested in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, advertising, or related fields.
Current projects for upcoming internships include:

Improving the quarterly GlobalNOC Connects newsletter featuring important updates tailored towards key stakeholders for our clients.

Collaborating with GlobalNOC leadership to define and implement a communication plan for sharing content about recent and upcoming changes internally, likely through Slack and other channels.

Participating in and helping coordinate special interest groups focused on our projects and services, such as AIOps and web portals. Create communications highlighting the activities of the group, sharing important details to key stakeholders.

Creating 1-pagers about our newest services, tools, and other important topics.

Helping us define a program for engaging multiple target audiences across multiple channels with the appropriate messaging about relevant topics.

Developing a social media plan for engaging with our community, peers, and other relevant contacts.

In-person work is preferred; however, this position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
