Full Job Description

Senior Accountant / Accounting Lead (Contract Opportunity) Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Accounting Lead to support our accounting operations through a contract engagement with the potential opportunity to transition into a permanent position.

This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership of processes, improving systems, and ensuring accuracy across financial operations. The initial contract period will run through December 31, 2026, with the possibility of extending the engagement or transitioning into a part-time or full-time position based on business needs, performance, and mutual fit.

This is a hands-on role requiring someone who can work independently, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide reliable support across accounting functions.

The anticipated schedule is approximately three days per week, with flexibility based on workload and business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations

Manage accounts payable processes and ensure timely, accurate vendor payments
Maintain general ledger and accounting records in QuickBooks Desktop
Perform bank, credit card, and account reconciliations
Review and ensure accuracy of financial transactions and account entries
Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation

Payroll Support

Process and review payroll, including union payroll requirements
Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with applicable reporting requirements
Assist with payroll-related questions, adjustments, and issue resolution

Financial Reporting

Support monthly financial close processes
Prepare internal financial reports for leadership review
Assist with quarterly reporting and coordination with external accounting partners

Vendor & Business Communication

Maintain professional communication with vendors and service providers
Research and resolve billing discrepancies
Ensure timely follow-up on outstanding financial matters

Process & System Improvement

Evaluate and strengthen accounting workflows, documentation, and internal controls
Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and reporting processes
Support the continued development of accounting procedures and best practices

Qualifications

5+ years of accounting experience required
Strong experience with QuickBooks Desktop required
Solid background in accounts payable, reconciliations, and payroll
Union payroll experience strongly preferred
Experience working with construction, trades, or field service industries preferred
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Contract Details

Initial contract term: Start date through December 31, 2026
Schedule: Approximately 3 days per week
Work location: Onsite in Northeast Minneapolis
Flexible scheduling available
Opportunity for contract extension or transition to a permanent position based on performance and business needs
