Behavior Technician (BT)

Location: On-site in Bloomington, Illinois (Bloomington campus)

We offer two distinct programs to meet diverse learner needs:

PreK–8 Academic Program: Grounded in Direct Instruction and Precision Teaching, focused on core academic skills with explicit, systematic teaching to mastery, fluency, and generalization.

Clinical ABA Program (Ages 3–13): Cognition-linguistically based ABA program emphasizing cognitive skills, social behavior learning, language development, reasoning, executive functioning, and social competence within a structured instructional environment.

Across ExcelPrep programs, we center:

Direct Instruction and instructional design

Precision Teaching and data-based decision making

Instruction grounded in behavior science research

Occupational Therapy as a prioritized therapy alongside ABA to support sensory-motor development

Our mission is to provide a nurturing, academically focused learning environment where neurodiverse students can develop strong academic foundations, cognitive-linguistic skills, and the confidence needed to succeed in school and beyond.

Position Overview

Role: Behavior Technician (BT)
Reports to: BCBA Supervisors / Program Lead
Purpose: Assist in delivering ABA-based and direct-instruction strategies under supervision, contribute to data collection and progress monitoring, and support students aged 3–13 in achieving targeted learning and social outcomes.

Responsibilities

Support the implementation of individualized ABA and direct-instruction plans under the supervision of a BCBA.

Collect reliable data on target behaviors and skills; maintain accurate session notes and data sheets.

Assist with structured, data-driven instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, and functional skills.

Help integrate Occupational Therapy-inspired strategies to support sensory-motor development as appropriate (within BT scope and supervision).

Monitor student safety and support positive, respectful behavior management under supervision.

Collaborate with BCBA, teachers, therapists, and families to support consistent programming.

Maintain a supportive, encouraging learning environment; promote student independence and generalization of skills.

Participate in team meetings, professional development, and ongoing supervision.

Qualifications

Required:
- Minimum high school diploma or GED; college coursework or related experience preferred.
- Knowledge of ABA principles, data collection, and behavior support strategies.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated patience, adaptability, and a child-centered approach.
- Ability to pass background checks and TB screening.

Preferred:
- Experience with Direct Instruction and/or Precision Teaching.
- Experience supporting neurodiverse learners aged 3–13.
- Familiarity with integrated therapy approaches (e.g., OT-informed strategies) and collaborative care models.

Schedule & Work Environment

On-site positions across ExcelPrep campuses in Bloomington, IL.

Flexible options: full-time and part-time roles available.
