The Opportunity
Join the Absolute Machining team as a CNC MACHINIST, SETUP & PROGRAMMER – 2ND SHIFT LEAD. This is a hands-on working supervisor role serving as the primary lead on second shift, responsible for team performance, workflow, and quality standards.
We are built on providing excellent service and providing premier pre-production consultation, design services, prototyping, material purchasing and manufacturing. We are looking for an ambitious individual willing to put in hard work to build out our capabilities.
We are currently hiring for a 2nd shift position, 8 hour shifts 5 days a week. This is a Full-Time opportunity with an hourly wage of $30.00–$33.00 per hour based on experience. Compensation is commensurate with experience and/or formal training. This position requires the ability to commute or relocate to Fort Wayne, IN.
Responsibilities
Second Shift Leadership & Oversight:
· Serve as the working lead on second shift, supporting team performance, workflow, and quality standards
· Act as the primary point of contact for second shift operations
· Support and guide team members to maintain productivity, quality, and efficiency
· Coordinate workflow and prioritize jobs to meet production goals
· Troubleshoot issues on the floor and escalate when needed
· Ensure adherence to company standards for quality, safety, and process control
· Communicate shift performance, issues, and updates to leadership
CNC Programming, Setup, & Process Ownership:
· Independently program, set up, and optimize CNC lathes and mills (OKUMA, HAAS)
· Interpret engineering prints, models, and GD&T to determine machining strategy, tooling selection, and sequence of operations
· Select and install tooling, workholding, and fixtures to ensure repeatable, high-precision production
· Establish and verify machine offsets, toolpaths, and cutting parameters
· Perform first-article inspections and make necessary program or offset adjustments to achieve print compliance
· Optimize speeds, feeds, and cycle times while maintaining quality and tool life
· Troubleshoot machining and program-related issues independently
· Take ownership of jobs from setup through production approval
· Collaborate with engineering and leadership to improve manufacturability and process efficiency
Quality & Documentation:
· Verify critical dimensions and tolerances using precision inspection equipment (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.)
· Ensure all parts meet print specifications, GD&T requirements, and surface finish standards
· Document inspection results and maintain accurate production records
· Identify and correct deviations, tooling wear issues, or process inconsistencies proactively
Shop Duties:
· Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area in accordance with company standards.
· Adhere to all health and safety regulations including proper use of PPE
· Communicate with team leads and coworkers to maintain workflow alignment
Required Knowledge & Skills
· 3–5 years CNC setup and programming experience required
· Proven ability to independently program and set up multi-axis CNC mills and/or lathes
· Strong proficiency in reading engineering prints and understanding GD&T
· Deep understanding of precision tolerances and surface finishes
· Working knowledge of speeds, feeds, tooling strategy, and tool life management
· Ability to optimize processes and improve cycle efficiency
· Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, and tool steels
· Confidence editing G-code and adjusting machine parameters
· Familiarity with OKUMA or HAAS controls preferred
· Demonstrated problem-solving ability and independent troubleshooting
· Professional communication skills and team collaboration
· Accountability and ownership mindset
· Prior experience in a lead, trainer, or supervisory role preferred
· Ability to guide and support other machinists in a production environment

Physical Requirements
· Lift 40 lbs. occasionally
· Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
