Full Job Description

Ultrasonographer (Registered) | Hiring Incentive $10,000

Primary Location: Watauga Medical Center
Additional Coverage: May provide patient care support at both Watauga Medical Center and Cannon Memorial Hospital as operational needs require. Travel between facilities may be required; hourly pay and mileage reimbursement are provided for eligible travel.

WOW (Work on Weekend) Pay: Additional $4.00/hour on top of base rate

Status: Full-Time | 6:30pm - 7:00am | On-Call Required

Compensation: Starting pay begins at $33.59 per hour, with competitive rates based on experience and education. WOW (Work on Weekend) shifts pay an additional $4.00 per hour.

Schedule: Full-time weekend night shift (6:30pm - 7:00am); on-call required. Travel between hospital locations may be required to support patient care services.

What You’ll Do as an Ultrasonographer

Perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound exams in accordance with physician orders and established imaging protocols.
Ensure patient safety through proper positioning, preparation, and adherence to imaging and infection control standards.
Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients to explain procedures and ensure a positive experience.
Collaborate with radiologists and multidisciplinary teams to support timely interpretations and coordinated care.
Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Document imaging procedures accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Participate in ongoing professional development and required training.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of an AMA-accredited health science or sonography program.

Experience:

Clinical imaging experience gained through an AMA-accredited sonography program.

Licenses/Certifications:

ARDMS registered or registry eligible.
- New graduates must obtain registry within 1 year of hire.
- On-the-job-trained sonographers must obtain registry within 2 years of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required at hire.

Skills & Abilities:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to deliver safe, effective patient care within licensure and policy guidelines.
Knowledge of imaging protocols, sonographic physics, and patient positioning.
Exceptional attention to detail and customer service.

Physical & Work Environment

Standing and walking for 8+ hours per shift.
Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying 50+ lbs.
Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, turning, and reaching.
Frequent fine motor skills, repetitive motion, and close eye work.
Exposure to vibration, cramped spaces, and acoustic energy.
Regular exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and mechanical equipment.
Irregular hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities.
May assist with patient mobilization for 4+ hours per shift.
