The Boone County Sheriff’s Office, located in Columbia, MO, is looking for a Detention Officer.
As a Boone County Detention Officer, you'll play a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and professional environment for staff, detainees, and the community. Working as part of a dedicated team, responsibilities will include:
Responsibilities:
- Interacts face-to-face with detainees
- Ensures the safety of staff, detainees, and the public by directing and controlling detainee movement inside and outside the facility
- Monitors and documents detainee activities
- Oversees the intake and release processes
- Manages visitations
- Logs and prepares various detainee records
- Transports detainees as needed
- Enforces facility regulations
- Assists in maintaining facility security

Status: Full-time, non-exempt, benefited
Working hours: Positions are available with 8- and 12-hour shifts, offering a variety of scheduling options to fit your needs.
Working Environment: The role requires working in a correctional facility setting, often in close proximity to inmates, with exposure to security risks, varied work hours, and potential for physical activity. Officers must be prepared for both routine duties and crisis situations.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.
- No felony convictions.
- Must pass a medical examination, psychological assessment, a pre-employment drug screen, and an FBI fingerprint background check

Hourly Pay Rate: $25.88/hour. Shift differential of $1.50 or $2.00 per hour for shifts that start after 6pm weekdays, all shifts on weekends, and all shifts on county holidays.
