Full Job Description

Job Overview: To drive 28ft to 32ft mobile health van for clinical team for purpose of conducting prevention/education/testing services to the following populations: homeless, active substance users and those in recovery, ethnic and culturally diverse individuals and members of the LGBTQ community. Areas served include MA statewide but primarily focused in Greater Boston. Potential for increased hours/full-time with expanded role of Community Health Worker to conduct community outreach and patient health navigation and medical escorting to appointments.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED
Minimum of 3 years driving experience of large vehicles, trucks and/or mobile medical vans
Valid Driver’s License
Active insurance policy
Clean driving record

Driver Responsibilities:

Ensuring vehicle is fueled and in safe operating condition.
Conducting operations checklist before and after clinics.
Performing weekly maintenance checks and schedule maintenance appointments as necessary.
Reporting any vehicle maintenance issues to supervisor.
Procuring needed supplies from storage facilities and agency offices.
Picking up canisters, specimen containers, and vaccine from State Laboratory in Jamaica Plain and other municipal health departments.
Delivering laboratory specimens at completion of clinic to State Laboratory in Jamaica Plain.
Transporting staff back and forth from designated clinic venues.
Obtaining ice and stocking coolers and snack bins for clinic participants.
Assisting with set-up and break-down of mobile clinic in venues such as ethnic and gay festivals and events, clubs and bars, inner-city neighborhoods, homeless shelters, sidewalks, parking lots, churches, beaches, etc. This involves ensuring safe set-up of all electronic equipment – computers, labeling machines, other electric medical equipment, etc. – by taping down all cords and wires, removal of furniture from participating agency buildings and incorporation for use in clinical activities.
Coordination of parking of van and other vehicles participating in scheduled events.
Escorting staff to clinical areas, bathrooms, and various outreach locales to ensure safety and security.
Escorting patients from outreach to registration, bathrooms, van, and check-out area.
Removing all bio-hazardous waste following completion of clinical activities for appropriate disposal at Randolph, Lynn or Lowell office locations or designated participating clinical sites.
Removing all non-hazardous garbage throughout clinic and following completion of clinic activities.

Outreach Worker/CHW/Health Navigator Responsibilities:

Conducting outreach and recruitment activities as part of team.
Setting up and monitoring of informal waiting areas at all clinics while clients are in queue for services.
Procuring and disseminating patient incentives (food coupons, light snacks, educational pamphlets, condoms, etc.) for participation in clinic activities.
Conducting outreach education to community members describing clinic services and recruitment into services including dissemination of palm cards, flyers, etc and other promotional materials.
Developing non-judgmental, culturally competent, harm reduction approach when interacting with vulnerable underserved populations, such as persons who use drugs and members of their social network, transgendered individuals, men who have sex with men, and members of communities of color.
Medical escorting/health navigation with patients as needed.
All other duties as required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 – 24 per week
