The Humane Society of Boulder Valley (HSBV) has openings for part-time, Animal Care Attendant to support the veterinary hospital. The attendant provides for the general care and maintenance of hospitalized pets including feeding, kennel and hospital cleaning in our newly expanded veterinary facility. This position will directly support the veterinary team who provides quality care for the shelter animals as well as the pets and people in our community.

The pay rate for the Animal Care Attendant (also called Patient Care Attendant) starts at $17.00 per hour with an additional $2.00 earned per hour for hours worked on Saturdays and Sundays. Work hours are primarily between the hours of 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM daily.

Summary of Responsibilities
Animal Care

Feed animals; ensure adequate food and water are available; clean and disinfect hospital kennels and cages

Ensure animals are clean, secure, and comfortable so that visiting clients are confident animals are receiving excellent care

Report animal health or temperament to patient services team members; record patients’ bodily function information observed during the cleaning process

Provide social interaction with patients as appropriate for their behavioral well-being while hospitalized. Walk dogs as needed.

Ensure occupied kennels, cages, and pet carriers are properly identified and labeled

Bathe or groom animals before discharge as necessary and at the direction of the patient services team; may assist with medical baths or dips.

Assist the volunteers assigned to surgical recovery or surgical pack preparation as needed.

May assist with animal restraint as appropriate
Hospital Operations

Clean hospital areas including surgery, radiology, dentary, animal holding areas, and front lobby. Sweep and mop floors.

Clean crates, cages, and hospital equipment; operate laundry machines, organize laundry and restock towels for hospital use.

Stock supplies in treatment areas including animal food, litter, medical supplies.

Assist with cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments, assembly of surgery packs. Operate autoclave and ultrasonic cleaner.

Perform general custodial duties including emptying garbage and recycling, and replacing medical sharps disposal containers as needed.
Client Care and Support Responsibilities

Assist with patient check-in and discharge, greeting clients, assisting with patient weight as needed.

Assist Client Services team with appointment confirmation phone calls, and other reception duties.

Ensure excellent customer service and a positive experience for our clients.

Engage volunteers and take an active role in their training, integration, safety, performance, and job satisfaction.

The pay rate for this position starts at $17.00 per hour. There is an additional $2.00 per hour earned for time worked on Saturdays and/or Sundays.This pay range is the Humane Society of Boulder Valley’s best estimate for this position and actual compensation will be based on factors including but not limited to the depth and extent of relevant experience, education, and additional training/certifications for preferred skills. Additional compensation is available for qualified employees who can translate for our Spanish-speaking clientele. Working Conditions - Work is performed in a veterinary hospital and animal shelter setting. Exposure to disinfectant solutions. Subject to animal bites and scratches while handling animals of questionable temperament. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds with assistance. Able to sustain up to 8-hour shifts when necessary. Work shifts may be spent walking, standing, sitting, bending, squatting, and lifting. Schedule may require weekend availability.
