This is a paid, part-time (W-2), fully remote internship, running mid-September through mid-December. We built this program to give early-career paralegals a way into the estate planning field that doesn't really exist anywhere else. You will get real exposure to a wide range of estate planning work, mentorship from some of the most qualified paralegals in the industry, and an opportunity for a full-time offer for those who earn it.
About Us
Back Office Drafting is a fully remote team that serves as the fractional drafting department for hundreds of estate planning firms across the country. That means our paralegals see a breadth and depth of work that's unmatched in this industry. There's nowhere else you can work under hundreds of estate planning attorneys, dozens of states, and such a wide variety of client demographics and niches. We work hard and we like each other. This is a real team, not a group of people who happen to share a Slack channel. Our team is small, sharp, and genuinely good at this, and we're careful about who joins it.
About You
You're finishing a paralegal program soon, or you finished one recently. You're looking for the kind of hands-on experience most entry-level roles don't offer, and you're ready to prove what you can do.
You finish what you start. When something's unclear, you dig in, figure out what you can, flag what you can't. You notice when something could be done better and say so, instead of assuming that's not your job. You take feedback without flinching, because you care more about getting it right than being right. You don't fall apart when a deadline gets tight or a file gets messy; you get more determined and focused, not more frantic. You're curious about this work, not just looking for something to fill a resume line, and you want a place to build a long-term career.
About the Program
You'll be trained from the ground up on how our best drafters actually think through a plan, not just how to fill in a template. You'll have two formal check-ins, at roughly 30 and 60 days, so you always know exactly where you stand.
Day-to-day, you'll be working alongside our team on:
- Learning to draft revocable living trusts, wills, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and related ancillary documents
- Getting trained on professional drafting platforms such as WealthCounsel and InterActive Legal
- Learning how to read an attorney's design instructions and preferences and apply them precisely
- Getting frequent, specific feedback from experienced professionals
- Raising your hand when something's outside your current skill set, and leaning into the learning curve
Requirements
Eligibility: Graduating from an accredited paralegal program within the next year, or graduated recently. This program is specifically designed as an entry point for early-career paralegals. Must reside in the U.S. with valid work authorization.
Availability: Roughly 20 hours per week, mid-September through mid-December. Your schedule must include 9-11am CT, Monday through Friday, for group training and meetings. Remaining hours are flexible and can be arranged in advance, but we need to know we can count on you to complete your work thoroughly and on time alongside your other commitments.
Skills: Attention to detail. Comfort with technical documents and detailed instructions. Genuine follow-through, eagerness to learn, and real interest in the subject matter.
Setup: A distraction-free, private workspace with reliable internet.
Attitude: Low ego, high standards, and real investment in getting better every week.
