Summary:
The Data Scientist plays a key role in leveraging advanced analytics to address clinical and business challenges, uncovering opportunities that enhance patient care and organizational efficiency. As a vital member of the Analytics Center of Excellence (ACOE) at Ballad Health, this position collaborates with diverse teams across the organization to understand complex business problems and develop data-driven solutions. This role requires creative and technical expertise to deliver actionable insights by extracting, preparing, and analyzing data from various sources (e.g., Clarity, Caboodle). The Data Scientist will use tools such as SQL and Python for data transformation, conduct advanced analyses including natural language processing, and develop automated reporting solutions and dashboards using Power BI. Additionally, this position will support organizational learning by mentoring analytic and business team members across Ballad and fostering a culture of data literacy in the organization.
Essential Functions:
Lead the development, deployment, and maintenance of data science projects and Power BI reporting solutions.
Analyze structured and unstructured data to address clinical and operational challenges, generating innovative solutions for stakeholders.
Collaborate with departmental and system leaders to prioritize projects, define requirements, and evaluate the impact of analytics initiatives.
Design and implement efficient SQL queries to extract data and apply tools like Python and Power BI for data validation, transformation, and visualization.
Clearly communicate complex analytics concepts to non-technical audiences, delivering compelling presentations that inform decision-making. Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of data analytics projects with minimal supervision, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and standards. Champion a culture of learning by training team members in advanced analytics techniques and supporting collaborative problem-solving.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required in health sciences, applied mathematics, computer science, engineering, statistics, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with tools such as Python, R, SAS and SQL, and relational databases. Proficiency in working with unstructured data and big data environments. Strong knowledge of data management concepts, including BI, data warehousing, ETL processes, and data governance. Familiarity with healthcare EMR and/or administrative data systems and data. Preferred Experience Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau. Hands-on experience with Epic data and models, including Clarity and Caboodle. Knowledge of open-source ML/AI libraries or frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras; OpenAI, Llama).
