Full Job Description

Role Summary

We are seeking a high-potential Cybersecurity Operations Intern to support our Biomedical Cybersecurity team. This is not a passive "shadowing" role; it is an accelerated development program designed to transition you from an Intern to a Cyber Specialist Level III within 90 days.

You will work directly under the Senior Analysts, providing critical support to the Department Director. While core data analysis is required, the keystone of this internship is Agile Task Management: the ability to handle "other duties as assigned" with the rigor of a project manager. You will be exposed to high-level governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) tasks, requiring you to operate well above the standard entry-level baseline.

Specialized Direct Reporting Tasks

You will own Four critical project domains. These are not daily tickets but ongoing initiatives that support our compliance posture.

1. Framework Implementation (ISO 27001 Focus)

Assist in the deployment and maintenance of our Information Security Management System (ISMS). You will map operational controls to ISO 27001 standards, ensuring that our daily security practices align with international compliance requirements.

2. Internal Cyber Audit Support

Act as the primary evidence gatherer for internal audits. You will collect artifacts, verify control effectiveness, and organize documentation to ensure we are "audit-ready" at all times.

3. Security Risk Assessment (SRA)

Supporting the implementation of risk controls. You will correlate asset criticality with vulnerability data to help leadership visualize and prioritize implementation and remediation efforts of these SRAs.

4. Implementation Project Support

Supporting projects impacting our department and organization.

Core Operational Responsibilities

Beyond special projects, you will ensure the smooth operation of the security function.

· Projectization of Requirements: Convert passive incoming requests into structured projects. You will define the scope, deliverables, and timelines for ad-hoc tasks, transforming "to-do lists" into tracked portfolio items.

· Task Coordination: Manage the lifecycle of operational tasks from assignment to completion, ensuring no requirements slip through the cracks.

· Reporting & Maintenance: Develop and maintain operational reports. You will be responsible for the integrity of the data presented to the Director, ensuring it is accurate, timely, and actionable.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential Requirements

· Education: Associate of Science (AS) in a Technical\Business Field required. A Bachelor's degree (completed or in-progress) with a focus on Cybersecurity or Information Assurance is highly preferred.

· Data Analytics Proficiency: Ability to manipulate raw data using Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Complex Formulas) and CSV formats. You must be able to clean, organize, and analyze datasets for vulnerability management and audit preparation.

· Security Fundamentals: Strong theoretical understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP, with a clear aptitude for applying this knowledge to practical security implementations.

· Visualization: Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical data into intuitive charts, diagrams, and graphs for non-technical stakeholders (e.g., creating a visual timeline of a security incident).

· Travel: Expect large amounts of traveling as you may be asked to go site to site

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus)

· Certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+,

· Advanced Certifications: SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner) or similar early-career cyber credentials (such as CYSA).

· Scripting is a plus: Basic proficiency in Python (Pandas, Matplotlib) or PowerShell for automating data cleaning and reporting tasks.
