Job Title: Kid Zone Worker

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Job hours: Up to 12 hours a week

Job Pay: $10.70 per hour

Reports to: Kid Zone Director

Revision Date: 9/04/25

Leadership Level: Assistant to Lead

Primary Function/Department: Child Care

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Floater at the WCYMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Aids in the supervision of children, classroom, and all classroom activities.

2. Follows all procedures and standards as established by the law or the Y; makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.

3. Nurtures children through purposeful programming; aid in the creation of lesson plans that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes.

4. Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth.

5. Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.

6. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.

7. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress and connects families to the Y.

8. Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

● Must be at least 16 years of age and have completed a high school education or be at least a high school junior (on or after the start of high school junior year) and enrolled in or completed one of the following:

o An early childhood education or child development career technical program.

o A child development associate (CDA) training program or achieved a CDA credential for the age group in which the high school student is working.

o A college credit program with early childhood education or child development focus.

● CPR, First Aid, and certifications required within 90 days of hire.

● Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.

● Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.

● Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.

● Previous experience with diverse populations.

● Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

● Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

● Ability to plan, lead, and participate in program activities.

● Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
