Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Civil Construction Director of Operations to play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless execution of large-scale projects from start to finish including operational oversight ensuring the projects run smoothly, on time, and within budget. This role demands an individual with a deep understanding of civil construction and earthwork operations who possesses exceptional leadership skills providing oversight, direction, and mentoring to our construction superintendents/managers and field staff to ensure our projects are completed with precision, quality, adherence to schedule to meet and exceed the needs of our customers while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

Supervise and manage all on-site construction activities ensuring adherence to project timelines and budget constraints.
Coordinate and maintain clear and consistent communications with senior management, project managers, customers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress and quality.
Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during construction.
Maintain accurate and timely project documentation and reports.
Manage and maintain project schedules, monitor progress, and make necessary adjustments to meet the needs of the customer.
Advise senior level management and/or project management of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, and assist in resolving such problems.
Develop and maintain a plan and schedule of work based on the project plan.
Strict adherence to company policies as outlined, including ensuring health and safety standards are met.
Maintain daily control of project(s) directly or through direct reports including the management and coordination of onsite personnel, equipment operations, and subcontractor activities.
Ensure all operations are in full compliance with Federal/State/Local Regulations.
Work with HR, Foreman, Supervisors, Safety Department, etc. to interview, hire, train, coach, engage, evaluate and when necessary, discipline employees.
Assure that all required internal reporting is being completed by direct reports and self.
Monitor the quality of materials and workmanship.
Manage project budgets, assist with tracking project costs, and control costs.
Maintain positive relationships with internal customers, subcontractors, general contractors, and customer representatives.
Assures accurate and timely preparation of timecards, equipment hours, production reports and purchase orders.
Implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality and/or schedules.
Daily communications with the internal/external stakeholders regarding project status.
Monitor project production rates and costs by reviewing internal project reports.
Ability to resolve problems and make project decisions that maximize project opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, specifications, contracts, construction documents as well as safety rules.

· Willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs, and any other conditions that may affect schedule adherence.

· Ability to cope well in a stressful environment and communicate professionally.

· Demonstrated ability in leading, training, motivating team members to enhance team performance.

· Strong understanding of complex construction processes, advanced project management skills, and the ability to navigate intricate regulatory and safety standards.

· Proven track record of managing large-scale construction projects including strong knowledge of construction methods and technologies.

· Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

· Effective communication, organizational and time management skills.

· Experience in budgeting, cost control, scheduling, and resource allocation.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Minimum of 10 years’ experience in construction management with a focus on civil construction / earth works or related experience.

· Thorough understanding of construction safety protocols and regulations.

· Local knowledge of Unified Specs a plus.

· Ability to lift 50 lbs. on occasion, reach, grasp, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and squat.
