Full Job Description

Northpointe Council is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Counselor Assistant to join our team at the First Step Center, a residential treatment facility. This full-time position is ideal for individuals with experience or a strong interest in the substance use disorder field who want to make a difference in the lives of others.

A shift differential of an additional $2.00 per hour applies to any hours worked between 7pm and 7am

Schedule: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM | Includes Every Other Weekend. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK EVERY OTHER WEEKEND

Job Summary:

The Counselor Assistant provides direct client services, including monitoring behavior, supporting daily activities, facilitating participation in recovery programs, transporting clients, and assisting with admissions, documentation, and care planning.

Key Responsibilities:

Monitor client behavior and safety during all activities, including group sessions, meals, chores, recreation, and external appointments
Conduct room checks and ensure accountability for all clients
Support clients in completing program activities, developing time management and hygiene skills, and attending sobriety support meetings
Transport clients to approved destinations and assist with safe transfer when needed
Orient new clients to the facility and assist with admission paperwork and personal belongings
Complete initial assessments and recovery care plans
Provide support with documentation, filing, discharge preparation, and other administrative tasks
Comply with all agency policies and attend required trainings and meetings

Qualifications:

Minimum Education: High School Diploma
Preferred: Associate’s degree and/or CASAC-T; coursework in substance use disorders
Experience: At least 1 year of relevant paid or internship experience
License: Valid New York State Driver’s License required
