About the Role

As a Precision R&D Machinist, you will serve as a critical bridge between conceptual engineering designs and high-performance physical hardware. You will leverage your expertise in CNC and manual machining to transform complex requirements into functional components, directly influencing the speed and success of our product development cycles.

Responsibilities

Program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce high-precision prototype and low-volume components.
Utilize manual machining equipment and fabrication tools to create custom fixtures, tooling, and test articles.
Collaborate directly with engineering teams to provide actionable feedback on design for manufacturability (DFM), material selection, and tolerance feasibility.
Interpret 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and evolving engineering specifications to execute high-quality builds.
Perform rigorous quality inspections using micrometers, calipers, and height gauges to ensure strict adherence to design requirements.
Troubleshoot manufacturing challenges and optimize machining strategies to reduce lead times and improve part reliability.
Maintain a high standard of shop organization, equipment readiness, and safety compliance.

Required Skills

3-5 years of hands-on experience in prototype fabrication, toolmaking, or precision CNC machining.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex mechanical drawings and GD&T standards.
Strong technical aptitude with CNC milling and manual lathe operation.
Ability to work effectively from incomplete information and communicate technical tradeoffs clearly.

Preferred Skills

Advanced experience with CAM software such as Fusion 360, Mastercam, or SolidWorks CAM.
Background in high-complexity environments like aerospace, defense, or robotics.
Proven track record of designing custom workholding and fixtures for tight-tolerance parts.
Experience with secondary processes including finishing, coating, or additive manufacturing.
