Job Summary – Recovery Specialist (Medication Coordinator) Tues.- Sat. 7am to 3pm

The Recovery Specialist is responsible for assisting the Program Director, Clinical Director, and Counselor/Case Managers with the overall work by collaboratively supporting the program’s day-to-day operations.

Job Summary

The Medication Coordinator is responsible for overseeing medication management processes, ensuring accurate medication administration records, coordinating prescription refills, and supporting communication between healthcare providers, pharmacies, patients, and caregivers. This role helps maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and promotes safe, timely, and effective medication practices within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Medication Management

Coordinate and track medication orders, refills, and renewals
Maintain accurate medication administration records (MARs)
Ensure medications are stored, documented, and distributed according to regulations and company policies
Monitor medication inventories and report shortages or discrepancies
Assist with medication reconciliation and verification processes

Patient & Provider Coordination

Communicate with physicians, nurses, pharmacies, and caregivers regarding medication needs
Schedule and coordinate prescription refill requests and medication deliveries
Educate patients or caregivers on medication schedules and documentation procedures as appropriate
Address medication-related questions and escalate clinical concerns to licensed healthcare staff

Documentation & Compliance

Maintain confidential patient and medication records in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility medication regulations
Assist with audits, inspections, and quality assurance reviews
Document medication incidents, errors, or variances according to policy

Administrative Support

Enter and update medication information in electronic health record systems
Prepare reports related to medication usage, inventory, and compliance
Support healthcare staff with administrative medication-related tasks
Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance medication safety and efficiency

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; healthcare-related certification or associate degree preferred
Experience in healthcare, pharmacy coordination, medical administration, or medication management preferred
Knowledge of medication terminology and basic healthcare procedures
Familiarity with electronic medical record systems and healthcare software
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally
Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation

Preferred Qualifications

Certification as a Medication Technician, Medical Assistant, or Pharmacy Technician
Experience working in hospitals, assisted living facilities, behavioral health, or long-term care settings
Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and medication safety standards
Experience coordinating with pharmacies and insurance providers
CPR or First Aid certification preferred in some settings
