USN is seeking experienced Interventional Radiology Registered Nurses (IR RNs) for high-acuity assignments supporting both advanced vascular/neuro-interventional services and diagnostic interventional radiology departments. This unique opportunity is ideal for nurses who are comfortable managing critically ill patients, assisting with complex image-guided procedures, and providing expert care across a broad range of interventional specialties.
As a Travel Interventional Radiology RN, you'll work with multidisciplinary teams to support minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures while delivering exceptional patient care before, during, and after interventions. Opportunities may include assignments supporting vascular procedures, neuro-interventional cases, stroke interventions, EVD placements, ablations, ports, central lines, biopsies, drains, and CT-guided procedures.
This role combines the technical expertise of Interventional Radiology with the critical thinking and patient management skills of a critical care nurse.
About the Role
USN is recruiting for two high-demand Interventional Radiology practice environments, allowing experienced IR nurses to leverage a wide range of procedural and critical care skills:
Advanced Vascular & Neuro Interventional Radiology
Support patients with ICU-level acuity undergoing advanced procedures including:
- Vascular interventions and angiography (Angio)
- Central venous lines and ports
- Tumor and tissue ablations
- Neuro-interventional procedures
- Stroke interventions
- External Ventricular Drain (EVD) placement
- Complex catheter-based procedures
Candidates must be comfortable managing:
- Moderate sedation
- Neuro patients
- Critically ill ICU-level patients
- Emergency procedural situations
- On-call responsibilities when required
Diagnostic & Procedural Interventional Radiology
Support patients undergoing:
- CT-guided procedures
- Biopsies
- Abscess and fluid drain placements
- Vascular access procedures
- Routine interventional radiology procedures
Candidates must be comfortable with:
- Moderate sedation
- Occasional cases involving anesthesia services
- Image-guided procedures
- On-call coverage when required
Note: Neuro-interventional procedures are not performed in every department.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive pre-procedure nursing assessments
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures, risks, and recovery expectations
- Administer moderate sedation and monitor patient responses
- Assist physicians during interventional radiology procedures
- Monitor cardiac rhythms, hemodynamics, oxygenation, and neurological status
- Manage vascular access devices, ports, central lines, and IV infusions
- Administer medications, contrast agents, and emergency therapies as required
- Maintain sterile technique and infection prevention standards
- Provide post-procedure monitoring, recovery care, and discharge education
- Document patient care accurately within EMR/EHR systems
- Collaborate with radiologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary care teams
- Respond rapidly to emergent situations and procedural complications
Minimum Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Recent Interventional Radiology RN experience
- Experience with moderate sedation
- Strong patient assessment and critical care skills
- Experience managing vascular access devices and invasive procedures
- Ability to work independently in fast-paced procedural environments
- Experience with EMR systems such as Epic or Cerner preferred
