Job Title: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – One-on-One Support for Special Needs Student

Reports To: School Nurse and/or Principal

Hours: This position is M-F from 8:00-3:30 pm each day.

Position Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct, one-on-one support to a special needs student during the school day to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. This role involves monitoring the student’s medical needs, assisting with personal care, supporting participation in educational activities, and collaborating closely with the educational and medical teams. The CNA serves as a vital link between the student, school staff, and parents/guardians to promote a safe and inclusive learning environment. If the student does not attend, the person will be reassigned to complete other education related tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Monitor and respond to the student’s ongoing health needs throughout the school day, following medical care plans.
Administer basic first aid and support in medical emergencies in coordination with the school nurse.
Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed, including toileting, feeding, mobility assistance, and hygiene.
Support the student in accessing and participating in classroom activities and school routines.
Accompany and supervise the student during transitions, recess, field trips, and other school activities.
Document and report any health-related incidents, observations, or changes in the student’s condition to appropriate staff and guardians.
Maintain confidentiality of student health and personal information in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
Collaborate with teachers, aides, therapists, and the school nurse to support the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan.
Use appropriate lifting, positioning, and safety techniques to protect the student and self from injury.

Qualifications:

Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in [state].
Current CPR and First Aid certification.
Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or pediatric healthcare setting.
Knowledge of medical and safety protocols for children with special needs.
Ability to follow detailed care plans and respond calmly in emergencies.
Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Physical ability to assist with lifting, mobility, and active supervision.
