Full Job Description

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 2:30pm - 11:00pm

Shift: Swing (includes $2.00 per hour differential)

Training: You will be required to train on day shift (6:30am - 2:30pm)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Saw/Shear Operator moves and stages bundles of raw material and operates saw and shear equipment to cut material to specified lengths per production orders. This role requires accuracy, safe material handling, and a strong awareness of equipment hazards.

SAW & SHEAR OPERATIONS

Read and interpret production orders or cut lists to determine required lengths and quantities
Set up and operate saw and/or shear equipment to cut raw material to specified dimensions
Verify cut length and quantity accuracy using measuring tools; adjust equipment as needed to maintain tolerance
Load and position raw material bundles on saw/shear equipment safely
Perform routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance; report mechanical issues promptly

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Move and stage bundles of raw material using overhead cranes and forklifts
Sort and label cut material for the next production step
Maintain accurate production records and cut counts
Keep work area clean, organized, and free of hazards
Work cooperatively with supervisors and other production employees

SAFETY

Follow all safety precautions, lockout/tagout procedures, and production safety guidelines at all times
Operate safely around moving blades, mechanical parts, and cutting equipment; never bypass machine guarding
Handle raw material bundles safely, remaining aware of pinch points and shifting loads
Inspect equipment and product for integrity and safety; report any anomalous conditions promptly
Wear required PPE at all times in designated production areas, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed footwear

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED
Prior mechanical experience or general mechanical aptitude preferred; will train qualified candidates
Forklift certification and overhead crane experience preferred — will train qualified candidates
Ability to read a tape measure and work with basic units of measurement; basic math skills
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safety and quality
Vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs independently; frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, and reach
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and to work around heat, noise, vibration, and moving equipment
Dependable attendance with effective communication and teamwork skills
