General Manager - Park Management

Job Summary

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall operation, profitability, guest experience, and safety of the water park. This role oversees all departments, including Aquatics, Food & Beverage, Admissions, Retail, Maintenance, Grounds, and Guest Services. The GM ensures the park operates efficiently while maintaining high safety standards, excellent customer service, and financial performance.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Operations

Oversee all daily park operations to ensure a safe, clean, and enjoyable guest experience.
Lead, coach, and develop department managers and supervisors.
Conduct regular leadership meetings and communicate company goals.
Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Respond to operational emergencies and make timely decisions.

Financial Management

Manage park budgets, labor costs, and operating expenses.
Monitor daily revenue, attendance, and financial reports.
Meet or exceed revenue and profitability goals.
Approve purchases and control inventory expenses.
Analyze financial performance and implement improvement strategies.

Guest Experience

Ensure exceptional customer service throughout the park.
Resolve guest complaints professionally and efficiently.
Monitor guest satisfaction scores and implement improvements.
Maintain high cleanliness and presentation standards.

Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with OSHA, state health regulations, and company safety policies.
Oversee lifeguard operations and emergency action plans.
Conduct regular safety inspections and audits.
Ensure all required employee certifications remain current.
Lead accident investigations and implement corrective actions.

Human Resources

Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard seasonal and full-time employees.
Manage employee performance, coaching, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
Ensure compliance with employment laws and company HR policies.
Promote a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork and accountability.

Staffing & Scheduling

Develop staffing plans based on attendance forecasts.
Monitor labor percentages and adjust schedules to meet labor goals.
Ensure departments are adequately staffed during operating hours.

Maintenance & Facilities

Ensure rides, attractions, pools, and facilities are maintained safely.
Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules.
Work closely with maintenance leadership to minimize downtime.

Sales & Marketing

Support promotions, group sales, season pass initiatives, and special events.
Partner with the marketing team to increase attendance.
Monitor local competition and industry trends.

Reporting

Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
Report attendance, revenue, labor, incidents, and operational concerns to executive leadership.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop action plans as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality, Recreation Management, or a related field preferred.
5–7+ years of management experience in water parks, amusement parks, hospitality, or entertainment.
Proven leadership experience managing multiple departments.
Strong financial and budgeting skills.
Excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities.
Knowledge of OSHA, labor laws, and safety regulations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and workforce management/payroll systems (such as Paycom or Insperity).

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to climb stairs and inspect attractions throughout the park.
Must be available to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and extended hours during peak season.

Work Environment

Outdoor amusement and water park environment.
Exposure to heat, humidity, water, chemicals, and loud noise.
Fast-paced environment requiring quick decision-making.
