This is not a traditional CNC operator position. We are looking for someone who wants the opportunity and autonomy of running “their own shop” without having to start from scratch. We provide the facility and CNC equipment; you bring the machining expertise, business-development mindset, and drive to grow the operation.
The Opportunity
We are a family-owned metal fabrication and machining company based in Kennesaw, Georgia. Our machine shop is positioned for growth, and we are looking for the right person to take ownership of it as a business within our business.
The ideal candidate is equal parts master machinist, programmer, problem-solver, and entrepreneur. You should be comfortable finding and developing machining work, quoting and planning jobs, programming the machines, setting up and running production, managing quality, and building lasting customer relationships. As the operation grows, this role can help shape the processes, workload, tooling strategy, and future team needed to support that growth.
What You Will Own
Build the machining business: identify opportunities, develop customer relationships, bring in new work, and help create a sustainable pipeline of profitable machining jobs.
Operate with an owner’s mindset: take responsibility for the machine shop’s quality, productivity, scheduling, organization, customer service, and overall success.
Program, set up, and run CNC equipment from prototype and one-off work through low-volume production.
Develop efficient machining strategies using Mastercam, post processors, G-code, or conversational programming as appropriate.
Take a job from drawing or 3D model through programming, setup, first-piece inspection, production, and final completion.
Maintain high standards for tolerances, surface finish, documentation, inspection, and on-time delivery.
Continuously improve tooling, fixturing, feeds and speeds, setup methods, cycle times, workflow, and shop organization.
Our Current Machining Capabilities
2023 Haas VF-5/40XT — 3+1 axis vertical milling machine with 30-position tool changer.
2021 Haas DS-30Y — dual-spindle lathe with live tooling and bar feeder.
2021 ProtoTRAK DPM RX5 toolroom milling machine.
2022 ProtoTRAK 1630 RX toolroom lathe.
Various saws and material-handling equipment for blank preparation and machining support.
Our job-shop environment includes a high-mix, low-volume range of prototype and production parts in plastics, aluminum, multiple grades and alloys of steel, copper, brass, and other materials.
Technical Responsibilities
Develop CNC programs from engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D models.
Analyze drawings to determine part configuration, work holding, setups, tooling, machining sequence, tolerances, and inspection requirements.
Select appropriate cutters and tooling and establish feeds, speeds, work offsets, and machining parameters.
Perform machine setups, prove-outs, first-piece inspection, and production machining.
Inspect work-in-process and finished components using appropriate precision measuring equipment to verify blueprint requirements.
Troubleshoot programming, tooling, machine, dimensional, and cut-quality issues independently.
Maintain tooling, consumables, lubrication, coolant concentration, and general machine readiness.
Deburr and finish parts as required and maintain a clean, organized, professional work area.
Safely operate overhead cranes and other material-handling equipment.
Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Who We Are Looking For
5+ years of hands-on machining experience, with strong CNC programming, setup, and operating capability.
Demonstrated Mastercam experience; strong G-code knowledge and the ability to program or adjust at the machine.
Ability to independently read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T/tolerances, and 3D models.
Strong working knowledge of machine-shop mathematics, tooling, work holding, speeds and feeds, and precision inspection.
Experience with both CNC and manual machining is preferred.
Self-directed and comfortable making decisions without waiting to be told what to do next.
Commercial mindset: understands that great machining must also be efficient, competitive, responsive, and profitable.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Comfortable using Microsoft Office and basic business systems.
Personal measuring tools such as micrometers, indicators, and edge finders are expected.

Physical Requirements & Schedule
· Ability to safely handle parts and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
· Ability to stand for extended periods with the manual dexterity and visual acuity required for precision machining.
· Day shift, Monday–Friday; typical workdays are 8–10 hours.
· Occasional Saturday work may be requested based on workload and customer commitments.
Education & Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· 5+ years of general machining experience required.
· A mix of CNC and manual machining experience preferred.

Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience, technical capability, and the level of business-building responsibility the successful candidate can assume. For the right person, this role is intended to offer substantially more ownership and upside than a traditional machinist/operator position.
