Full Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Accounts Receivable Specialist will be responsible for reviewing and correcting charges, submitting claims, performing follow-up, medical records retrieval, and payment posting as needed to assist in finalizing payment for all claims. Candidates must have recent experience in communicating with payers and patients to resolve unpaid claims.

ORGANIZATIONAL REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

This position reports directly to the Billing Manager.

JOB SUMMARY:

This full-time, non-exempt position is responsible for Accounts Receivable review, resolution, and follow-up with accuracy and in a timely manner.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Minimum 2 years of recent physician billing experience and accounts receivable follow-up
Knowledge of 1500 billing
Familiarity with the functionality of the revenue cycle
Ability to learn and use electronic billing software, preferably with experience using eClinical Works, Epic, Powerchart, and Trizetto/Gateway clearinghouse
Review reports and correspondence to locate and address outstanding insurance claims and patient balances via email, phone, and in-person, as needed
Ability to read and properly evaluate an EOB/ERA and to enter data quickly and accurately
Process corrected claims and appeals as needed
Review and address insurance and patient overpayments and refunds
Ability to use sound independent judgment and self-supervise
Intermediate knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding as well as medical terminology
Must have experience with all insurance plans, i.e. Medicaid, Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, etc.
Ability to effectively communicate using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Proficiency in all Microsoft applications, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Prior EHR/EMR experience preferred
Ability to operate computers, general office equipment (copier, fax, scanner), and multi-line telephones
A background check is required for all candidates
Ability to always maintain a positive demeanor with others and bring any concerns to the Billing Manager for resolution assistance
Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; support department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff

Maintain an excellent understanding of the eClinical Works scheduling and billing system
Display comprehensive knowledge of medical billing procedures
Demonstrate effective use of medical terminology
Demonstrate effective customer service skills
Utilize effective time management skills to set priorities and multitask
Demonstrate effective organizational and critical thinking skills
Demonstrate effective use of organizational policies, procedures, and systems
Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills for appropriately handling stressful or difficult situations
Demonstrate dependability and initiative as a member of a team
Maintain a thorough understanding and practice of HIPAA requirements
Meet productivity standards to maintain contracted timeliness for claims follow-up
