Full Job Description

CNC Machinist — Setup & Production (Mill)

HP Machine Centerville, UT Full-Time $28–$33/hr DOE 4x10s, Mon–Thu

We're a precision aerospace machine shop moving into tier-1 supplier work for a major customer, and we need a machinist who can truly own a machine — setups, first articles, and production, start to finish. You'll run our Doosan DNM 5700, the busiest mill in the shop, and what comes off it goes into flight hardware.

About HP Machine

HP Machine is an ISO 9001:2015 certified CNC shop in Centerville, Utah, founded in 2021. We machine tight-tolerance aluminum and alloy components for aerospace and defense customers on a mix of Haas VF-series mills, a Doosan DNM 5700, Okuma Genos L3000 and LB2000EX lathes, and a Makino. We're a small crew — six people — which means no bureaucracy, direct access to the owner and the programmer, and your work is visible every day.

The Role

Twelve months in, you'll be the machinist the schedule is built around on the DNM 5700: setting up new jobs from the traveler and setup sheet without someone standing over your shoulder, proving out first articles with our programmer, and keeping recurring aerospace jobs running on time and in tolerance. Setup independence isn't a stretch goal for this position — it's the job, from week one.

What You'll Do

Own complete mill setups start to finish: workholding, tooling, offsets, program load, and first-article prove-out.
Run production parts to aerospace tolerances in 6061 and other alloys, holding in-process inspection per the job traveler.
Perform first-article and in-process inspection using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauge pins; document results per our ISO 9001 system.
Build and improve setup sheets as you run them, so every job gets easier the second time.
Collaborate with the programmer on new work — tooling suggestions, workholding ideas, cycle-time improvements are expected, not tolerated.

What We're Looking For

Required:

3+ years CNC milling experience including independent setups — candidates will complete a hands-on setup evaluation as part of the interview.
Able to read prints with GD&T and work to tight tolerances.
Proficient with precision measurement tools.
U.S. person per ITAR (required — we run export-controlled defense work).

Nice to have:

Fanuc-based control experience (Doosan), Haas, or Okuma OSP.
Aerospace or defense shop background; familiarity with AS/ISO quality systems.
Lathe cross-training — we'll take a machinist who can float between machines.

Pay, Schedule & Benefits

$28–$33/hr depending on demonstrated setup ability — the evaluation, not the resume, sets the number.
4x10 schedule, Monday–Thursday: a three-day weekend, every week.
