Role Snapshot
This is a career-defining leadership role. As our founding Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC), you will shape the pharmacy's operations, workflows, team, and clinical programs from day one and lead the practice as it grows — all within a true work-life-balance schedule (weekday daytime only). We are seeking an outstanding pharmacist who is reliable, trustworthy, fully qualified, and local to the Charleston area, with the ambition and entrepreneurial drive to build a thriving specialty practice.
Core Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Building: Recruit, hire, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate pharmacists, technicians, interns, and support staff. Build a culture of accuracy, service, and compliance.
Operations and Compliance (PIC Duties): Serve as the legally designated Pharmacist-in-Charge, accountable for lawful operation under the SC Pharmacy Practice Act. Ensure DEA, SC DPH Bureau of Drug Control controlled-substance registration, SCRIPTS (SC PDMP), SC Board of Pharmacy, and HIPAA adherence. Uphold good-faith dispensing and diversion-prevention programs; maintain controlled-substance security. Manage safe storage, inventory accuracy, returns, recalls, controlled-substance inventories, DEA Form 222 processing, and QA logs. Notify the SC Board of Pharmacy of PIC or staffing changes as required.
Clinical and Patient Care: Verify, dispense, reconstitute, and counsel per SC Board of Pharmacy standards. Conduct drug-regimen reviews and MTM; resolve therapy issues with prescribers. Administer immunizations per SC protocol and the CDC/ACIP schedule.
Business Performance and Planning: Manage inventory investment, purchasing, and financial/service metrics. Manage wholesaler/vendor relationships and payer contracting. Serve as the pharmacy's liaison to local physicians, nurses, clinics, and healthcare partners.
Launch and Build-Out (Pre-Opening): Assist with SOPs, pharmacy software, workflows, and the QA program; prepare for first-day dispensing and future clinical-service growth.
Required Qualifications: PharmD (or BSPharm) from an ACPE-accredited college. Active South Carolina pharmacist license in good standing. Current immunization certification. Current CPR/BLS certification. Relevant retail/specialty/independent pharmacy experience. Proficiency with pharmacy systems, eRx, and Microsoft Office. Management / Pharmacist-in-Charge experience strongly preferred. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship, now or in the future — we are unable to sponsor or transfer work visas for this position. This is an on-site role: candidates must already reside in (or be independently relocating to) the Charleston, SC area.
Preferred* Qualifications (not a requirement): Multi-state pharmacist licensure (a strong plus). Specialty pharmacy accreditation experience (URAC/ACHC) — a bonus, not required. Experience with limited-distribution drugs, payer contracting, and/or 340B. Compounding experience (USP <795>/<797>/<800>) — a bonus, not required. Spanish or other second-language proficiency.
What Sets Us Apart: True work-life balance — weekday daytime schedule with no nights, no weekends, and all major holidays paid and off. Ground-floor impact — build the pharmacy, team, and clinical programs your way. Independent, clinician-focused practice without big-box chaos. Modern tools and workflows selected with your input. Community roots and long-term growth potential alongside ownership.
Benefits: Paid time off (PTO). Paid major holidays (all major holidays). 401(k). Health insurance. PTO, 401(k), and health insurance become available after a 180-day vesting/probationary period, upon confirmation of continued employment.
Physical and Security Requirements: Stand, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs intermittently; communicate clearly with patients and providers. Comply with all information-security, HIPAA, and applicable federal and state regulations.
Professional Development and Essential Skills: Maintain all required licenses and certifications; stay current through CE, journals, and evolving best practices. We value an ambitious, entrepreneurial mindset, strong work ethic, business acumen, accuracy, reliability, excellent communication, attention to detail, and positive, team-oriented leadership.
