Full Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Promote team work and convey a genuine interest in supporting the lean production philosophy. Set-up and operate a variety of equipment as required. Maintain acceptable levels of performance as measured against work cell benchmarks. In addition, provide input relative to continuously improving the overall production performance of the work cell.

Operate various types of heat treating equipment including, but not limited to, hardening furnaces and tempering furnaces. Processes include carbonitriding, carburizing, neutral hardening, and tempering. Operator must follow detailed instructions relative to loading, unloading and operating furnaces and also monitor controllers and gages for time, temperature, pressure and flow rates. Operator must be constantly attentive to the proper function of the equipment and report abnormalities when they occur. Duties include loading and unloading furnaces, transferring parts from hoppers to baskets, or in the case of large studs, from coated baskets to heat treat baskets. Also dumping parts, performing complete inspection to proper heat treat processes and specifications including accurate recording of furnace settings, parts run and inspection checks on log sheets provided. Perform inspections/testing as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be “highly flexible” to work overtime at a moment’s notice
High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of departmental processes and products - preferred
Knowledge, skills and capabilities to run departmental machines
Working knowledge of computer system
Evidence of solid work history
Evidence of solid attendance
Evidence of attention to detail & quality
Minimum 2-year commitment
Must successfully satisfy the established job qualifying criteria
Must successfully complete a “hands-on” assessment (up to 30 days)
“Powered Industrial Truck Permit”.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Some jobs may require some or all of the following:

May lift, load and unload parts up to 50 pounds, as well as full heat treat baskets or cradles using proper material handling techniques and equipment, approximately 100-150 times per shift, per day.
Work may be performed in a standing position for long periods of time.
May operate and monitor multiple pieces of equipment simultaneously.
Ability to read, comprehend work instructions/inspection requirements and document the same at required frequencies.
Possess basic computer skills required to perform routine tasks.
Ability to work overtime.

HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL:

Must adhere to all established health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to avoid exposure to burns and bruises to the hands, high temperatures and a certain amount of risk inherent to heat treating equipment. Each employee has the responsibility to minimize any negative impacts on the environment. Employee required to report any work related incidents immediately. In addition, employee is responsible for the housekeeping, orderliness and basic organization of the immediate work area. Where possible, needs to minimize exposure to excessive heat, smoke, oil and above normal levels of noise.
