The Position

Beaconpoint Labs currently is seeking an experienced Chemist to join us on our important mission to deliver the most accurate and comprehensive data by leveraging cutting-edge test methods to perform a variety of analyses in the daily operation and maintenance of a state-of-the-art food analysis laboratory.

These functions may include sample preparation, method development, optimization, validation and analysis on instruments such as UHPLC, LC-MS, and others. As your key job function, you will be developing SOP’s, testing samples using established SOP’s, and supporting development of new methods for testing food and beverage / supplement samples for various nutritional analyses such as vitamins, amino acids, phytonutrients, etc.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for independently performing sample preparation, testing and recording laboratory data according to the company’s policies and procedures. You will be expected to generate accurate test results in a timeframe consistent with client expectations. Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Helping the lab leadership drive scientific and operational excellence in analysis through relentless focus on accuracy of results, data accuracy and efficiency.
Understanding and practicing the Good Laboratory Practices and accurate and traceable record keeping.
Independently performing efficiently at each step along the flow of samples, e.g., sample reception, retention & disposal, sample preparation including extraction & homogenization, sample analysis, and data reporting.
Troubleshooting and maintaining equipment such as microwave digestors, UHPLC, LC-MS, GC, ICP-MS, etc.
Understanding customer test requirements and reviewing results under the guidance of lab manager/director or other scientific and quality control leadership in the lab.
Executing testing methods exactly as defined by the SOPs in place. Becoming familiar with reagents, controls, and other general lab procedures.
Proactively making your supervisor / lab leadership aware of any problems with equipment or test supplies and methods.
Promptly working with your supervisor to address any nonconformance with the company’s safety and compliance policies.
Other duties as assigned

Requirements / Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field. Graduate degree preferred.
Previous food analysis lab experience is preferred.
Scientific publication experience preferred.
Minimum of two years of hand's on experience with instrumentation such as UHPLC, LC-MS, GC, ICP-MS.
Experience in an ISO 17025 certified (or similar) laboratory is preferred.
Strong written communication skills and report writing experience.
Strong organization and time management skills
