Phlebotomist/Drug Screening Technician

Position Summary

The Phlebotomist/Drug Screening Technician Position is responsible for identifying the best methods for retrieving specimens, preparing specimens and performing the correct screening procedures for laboratory testing.

Essential Responsibilities

Verify test requisitions by reading test orders
Verify patient by reading patient identification
Direct observe all urine collections
Maintain professional boundaries with clients
Obtain blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks
Maintain specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures
Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed
Maintain quality results by following department procedures, testing schedule, and recording results in the quality-control log while identifying and reporting needed changes
Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
Resolve unusual test orders by contacting the physician or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
Enhance laboratory department by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
Maintain the highest levels of customer care while demonstrating a friendly and cooperative attitude
Demonstrate flexibility in satisfying customer demands in a high volume, fast paced environment
Consistently adhere to business procedure guidelines
Must have reliable transportation
Desire to be part of a fast-paced, rapidly growing company

Position Qualifications

One (1) year experience in blood sticks/draws required
Urine collection experience is a plus
High school diploma
Ability to handle large, fluctuating volumes of work
Strong PC, keyboarding and typing skills
Strong customer focus
