ALBEMARLE / CHARLOTTESVILLE REGIONAL JAIL

CLASS TITLE: Video Court / Inmate Hearings Corporal

SALARY RANGE: $54,600 to $96,992

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

The Video Court/Inmate Hearings Corporal is Jail Certified officer and is considered a Hazardous Duty position. They are responsible for coordinating inmate disciplinary hearings, managing video court operations, preparing and submitting court documentation, and maintaining accurate records. This position serves as the liaison between the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail and the courts regarding inmate court documentation while ensuring compliance with facility policies, court procedures, and applicable laws.

The Corporal conducts investigations related to inmate disciplinary hearings, reviews video evidence, and maintains the integrity of hearing documentation. This position also assists other Inmate Services Department Personnel with daily operations as directed and participates in an on-call rotation based on operational needs.

ESSENTIAL TASKS

· Ensure all court and disciplinary documentation is completed accurately and submitted within established deadlines.

· Operate and troubleshoot video court equipment during scheduled proceedings.

· Coordinate and conduct inmate disciplinary hearings.

· Maintain and manage the schedule for all inmate disciplinary hearings.

· Review incident reports, security camera footage, and other evidence during investigations of inmate rule violations.

· Maintain and update all databases related to inmate disciplinary hearings, hearing schedules, disciplinary actions, pre-hearing detention, appeals, and other associated records.

· Prepare required reports, records, and correspondence; review reports and documentation submitted by staff for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and applicable standards.

· Prepare, complete, and submit required court documentation for video court proceedings.

· Communicate with courts, judges, clerks, law enforcement agencies, and other criminal justice partners regarding required documentation.

· Ensure the proper care, operation, and timely maintenance of assigned equipment.

· Assist other staff members within the Inmate Services Department with operational duties.

· Provide administrative support to the Records Departments by preparing and processing departmental paperwork, maintaining records and filing systems, obtaining required inmate signatures, answering and directing telephone calls, and performing other related administrative duties as assigned.

· Maintain the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors while performing assigned duties.

· Participate in an on-call rotation, including assignments extending beyond one week, as required by departmental operations.

· Participate in the development and delivery of officer training related to inmate disciplinary hearings, video court operations, and departmental procedures.

· Attend required training, meetings, conferences, and professional development activities to maintain proficiency and enhance job-related knowledge and skills.

· Conduct routine and as-needed searches of inmates, holding areas, and other inmate-accessible locations to detect and prevent the introduction or possession of contraband and to identify potential safety and security hazards.

· Ensure inmates are issued appropriate clothing, hygiene items, and authorized supplies in accordance with facility policies and established standards.

· Investigate and assist in the resolution of inmate complaints in accordance with departmental policies and established procedures.

· Respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests for assistance related to assigned areas of responsibility in a professional, timely, and courteous manner.

· Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, facility policies, departmental procedures, and established safety and security standards while performing assigned duties.

Requires handling or using machines, tools or equipment requiring moderate instruction and experience, such as protective equipment; also involves handling or using machines, tools, or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as computers for data entry, fax machines, copiers, telephones, or similar equipment. Perform other duties as assigned.

COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

REASONING REQUIREMENTS:

Requires performing semi-skilled work involving set procedures and rules but with frequent problems.

MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires using addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculating ratios, rates and percentages.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Requires reading technical instructions, procedures, manuals and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms and business letters with proper format; speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires doing clerical, manual, or technical tasks requiring a wide range of procedures and requiring intensive understanding of a restricted field or complete familiarity with the functions of a unit or small division of an operating agency; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED.

· Requires a Basic Jail Officer Certification.

· VCIN Certification required, or the ability to obtain VCIN Certification within 60 days of assuming the position.

· Valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

· Ability to pass all required background investigations and maintain eligibility for employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Knowledge of correctional operations, inmate supervision, and security procedures.

· Knowledge of inmate disciplinary processes and video court procedures.

· Strong organizational and time-management skills.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to maintain confidential information.

· Ability to investigate incidents and prepare accurate reports.

· Proficiency with jail management software, Microsoft Office, VCIN, and video court technology.

· Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

Working Conditions

· Work is performed in office and correctional facility environments.

· Frequent interaction with inmates, staff, court personnel, and outside agencies.

· Ability to stand, walk, lift, and respond to emergency situations.

· Required participation in an on-call rotation, including assignments lasting one week or longer.
