Full Job Description

Role Overview

Based in Chattanooga, TN, a prominent manufacturing firm is looking for a skilled Manual Machinist to become a key member of their tooling and maintenance department. Your primary focus will involve the construction, adjustment, and upkeep of precision tools essential for large-scale production. We are seeking a professional with deep expertise in machining and mold production who can effectively resolve technical challenges to keep our manufacturing lines running smoothly.

Core Duties

Construct and refine molds, fixtures, and various tooling components to keep production moving forward.
Utilize manual equipment such as lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM machines to help ensure high-quality component fabrication.
Review technical blueprints and engineering schematics to ensure all tooling meets exact specifications.
Conduct routine maintenance on molds to help extend the operational lifespan of our equipment.
Identify and resolve mechanical failures to minimize interruptions in the production cycle.
Analyze mold performance while in the machine to provide effective solutions for ongoing issues.
Perform necessary repairs on hot runner systems and other critical mold parts.
Create custom fixtures and electrodes to help boost overall manufacturing output.
Assist in the execution of engineering changes and prototype tooling updates.
Check finished parts for accuracy using specialized tools like micrometers and calipers.
Document all maintenance activities and inspection results to maintain accurate tooling records.
Collaborate with engineering teams to suggest design improvements that enhance tool reliability.
Uphold a secure and tidy workspace to help maintain a safe working environment for the entire team.
Take on additional machining tasks as required by the department.

Required Skills and Experience

Proven background in the maintenance and creation of production molds within an industrial setting.
Comprehensive understanding of manual machining techniques including turning, drilling, and grinding.
Proficiency in analyzing complex engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
Skilled in the use of precision measurement tools to ensure parts meet strict tolerances.
Practical experience diagnosing and fixing issues related to production molds.
Familiarity with standard preventative maintenance protocols for industrial tooling.
Welding skills are considered an advantage.
Knowledge of CAD programs like SolidWorks is highly desirable.
Strong mechanical reasoning and analytical problem-solving abilities.
